I keep meaning to message you and ask , what kind of scope is that ? its obviously NV , but are those kind still around ?
AN/PVS 502 light intensifying night vision scope. Originally manufactured by Varo in Texas, for the Canadian Armed Forces around 1973. Can be used in multiple roles, with the change of reticules: M2 .50cal, TOW, CarlG, FNC1A1, M16/C7, etc etc. Basically with the picatini base, can be mounted to any modern rail type system. With the Stanag mounts, it can go on any HK, Galil, M14, of course any FN FAL.
It currently has an Israeli reticule, which is a 4 minute dot with 4 stada lines at, 12,3,6,&9 position. It utilizes a lot of the same components as the US PVS 4 scope, which is still in operation today, however with an updated tube.
PVS 502 scope is 3.5 power magnification.
28 lp/mm resolution.
Adjustable reticule brightness.
Uses 4 N batteries, which are fairly common now, also used on EoTech sights.
Can be sighted in and shot with the day filter as seen in the picture.
Relatively inexpensive in relation to some stuff out today, but all in all, an excellent piece of kit.
If you were to compare it with the latest/greatest "autogated pinnacle tube wonder scope" PVS22, you see there isn't much size difference. However there is about a $21,000 price savings with the 502.
With this role mounted on the Sig rifle, the cheek rest/weld is perfect, just lay on the butt, move the eye cup in, and press. Very easily distinguish and engage targets on half moon nights at 400m.
