Let's see some pics of your Pimped out Troy PAR

Just added qd mount and scope. Took it to nrsgc this morning for first firing. Used 180 grain sst hornady 308 with varget load. Best group was about 1.5 inch after subtracting bullet diameter. It didn't like hornady superformance 165 grain sst. Heavy trigger but may swap that out to help improve groups.

few questions

has any one changed out the 223 bbl for a standard ar15 barrle and reloaded, just tryign to work out if the fluted chamber is really needed.
s we are doign a run of ar15 barrles in feb and i could just make some with no gas port.

also whats the shortest bbl lenght you can put on this gun say if you were to bring it up flush with the end of the hand guard.

last thing, with the stock folder on the 223 to the end of the handguard, what it the total lenght.
I got to shoot one this summer and was going to buy one till i tried to reload/ resize the brass that was shot in that fluted chamber.

Flute less barrels are more beneficial when reloading as the charge weights are much lower negating the need when using higher pressure factory loads. The gas requirement is non existent without a gas system resulting in more forgiving powder selections and charges.

Fabricating barrels without a GP and flutes would be very beneficial.

I would love to see a 6.8 SPC and .223 for this rifle.

I have read on another forum that some have swapped out there barrels to ones with no flutes and had no problems with extraction

Shortest barrel would be a 16" for the International version, with the folded stock and factory 16" barrel OAL is 26.25"

I thought the flutes were put in to help expel gases that would normally be discharged through the AR,s normal system?

^^this.....it is to alleviate some pressure that is usual required for a gas gun. When I reload for the PAR it is a full 2 gns less.

I am sorry but when I read that a fluted chamber is needed to alleviate pressure it makes me wonder why the Remington 7165 in 223 doesnt have a fluted chamber? Why aren't any 223 or 5.56 bolt guns coming with fluted chambers? The one reason I could see why the fluted chamber is there is to aid in extraction of the fired brass. But even then I can't see it helping much. Can some one educate me a little more on fluted chambers, or am I missing something?? Thanks

So if I get a longer barrel installed and I run factory loads without the lands it could be a problem even just running .223 not .5.56?
It is safe but some say it may be difficult to extract with some brands. Some new rifles are shipped without the flutes with positive results, however I can only speak of my experience and have not seen them. Some shooters have changed out to standard AR 5.56/.223 barrels with gas ports plunged with favarable results.

Personally I would not worry about it and make the change.

A bolt mechanism has far more leverage then any AR cam pin can ever generate to allow easy extraction from NATO pressure cartridges. The PAR pump system isn't as robust as many dedicated OEM manufacturers pump long gun systems so Troy had opted for utilizing flutes to ease extraction.

They are not the first builders to go this route.

so i,m thinking of putting a shorter bbl on the par, with a ar15 carbine stock not the ### side folder, just wondered how short i can go
need to know the distence from bot face to the end of the hand guard

You better be careful on choosing a barrel that will continue to maintain the non-Restricted status. Also keep in mind that mid gas length is required to allow room for the pump collar.

37" stock open / 34" stock collapsed on the Optic Ready model / 16" factory barrel length & in theory you could install a shorter barrel / however if you cut the rail any warranty supportbis gone etc etc

Updated pic, at the range today and happy with the results. Two 3 shot groups both sub MOA at 100 yards using PMC bronze 55 grain with the rainier arms match 16" .223 wylde barrel.

Just installed TriggerTech drop in. Very easy and just fell in with a very snug fit once the two FCG pin set screws are tightened down.(note: pins will fall out when you tilt the rifle if the set screws are not used)
