Let's see some pic's of your SxS's & O/U's

How much the cost of SxS gun? and please also tells the maker of it?

Welcome as well. Most of us posting pictures are only to happy to talk about the guns although we may be a bit reticent about pricing them. Because this thread is dedicated to SxS guns with just a few exceptions, the odd OU sneaks in ;-) , it is important that you specify which gun you are looking for more information about.

The one I just posted a picture highlighting the top lever and engraving on the top of the receiver is a Webley-made Army & Navy from about 1890. It has fluid steel, black powder barrels and a straight (English) stock.

Regards,

James

This thread needs to come back up to the top!

Very nice acquisition, Mark. I assume that it weighs (around the 6.5 mark perhaps?) and handles as good as it looks. What are you shooting in that - Gamebores only?

Might as well add pics of my OU's.Not the best pic, but you'll get the idea

Top is my Remington 3200 Special Trap. Please ignore the comb raiser and the washers under the recoil pad. I'm working on getting the stock to fit.

Middle is my Ruger Red Label Sporting 20 with 30" tubes

I have been looking at the side by side shotguns quite a bit. Whilst overseas my friend and I realized we had the same taste in guns. Both of us wanted side by sides.
There is much to know and learn regarding these guns. Moreover, there are many guns of varying manufacture dates made by many makers. It is difficult for a tyro to choose a gun with any certainty.
I was looking at a Brno gun but after searching the net for information discovered that these guns have a design flaw in their extractor. How disappointing.
How and where does one go about choosing a gun?

Assuming you mean the ZP-49, they all have ejectors as far as I know, atleast the one I owned and the three I have shot did.

As in the case of most other things, you will agree that there is virtually no ceiling when it comes to firearms selection.

What would be the purpose of the SxS?

What preference(s), if any, do you have in mind at this time i.e. in terms of brand, configurations etc based on the following.......

- New or Used
- Gauge
- Boxlock or Sidelock
- Stock type (English, PoW or other form of pistol grip)
- Forend type (Splinter or Beavertail)
- Trigger type (double triggers or SST)
- Ejectors or extractor
- Fixed or screw-in chokes
- Barrel length

Turkeyslayer, you are correct, I meant to say ejector. In the UK many of the ZP-49's have had the ejectors removed and are sold like that.
Ahsan Ahmed, I want to use the gun for small game like rabbits and ruffed grouse as well as ducks and geese.
As for cost, under one thousand dollars and no preference to brand. The Brno is a nice gun but for the ejector problem, which has been written about on many different forums. Moreover tradex' return policy is such that if the ejectors do break I'm on my own in terms of fixing it; returning the gun is out of the question after it has been fired.
Slim, strong and points well is what we all look for I suppose. But brands that formerly made good guns may now be making poorer quality stuff.

Regardless of brand, features, cost etc - gun fit has to be the very first essential component that would need to be addressed during shotgun selection.

Based on what you have outlined above - I would initially suggest a 12ga CZ Bobwhite (made by Huglu in Turkey). The SxS is equipped with 3in chambers, a straight grip/splinter forend, double triggers, screw-in chokes and compatible with steel ammo. Double triggers will be a great assist for instant choke selection in any/all types of bird hunting scenario.

At around 7lbs or just a little bit more (depending on wood) it would be heavy enough for Waterfowl and yet not that heavy so as to tote the shotgun comfortably in the Uplands.

The CZ web designer is a moron for selecting a dark background for display...anyway, here's the link.

FWIW, the one I had owned was 7lbs 4oz with very nice wood and presumably one of the best assembled specimen in fit/finish that came off the Turk factory. Both barrels shot exactly to POA. The only reason I disposed of that is because I don't chase Waterfowl and Upland hunting in ON is easily handled with a 20 or 28ga.
