Thanks Nathan,

I am a big fan of Brit sxs's but I always seem to have a few American guns as well.

My current Sporting clays/Crow Crusher/Goose Thumper is a Parker Bros DH 12 gauge with 32" barrels, straight grip, choked IM & IM which I have recently had restocked & reblacked. It was made in 1903 & belonged to two well off Montrealers who burned lots of powder.

There's also a 16 gauge Parker VH in the stable.

Mark

Dang that wood looks great. The 2nd pic made my eyes pop out. Who did it?

More and more beauties getting posted. Mark, your 20s look great. Nice to see the pics of your completed DH as well. I'll add a couple of 20s the mix. Sorry about the bad photos.
This is my A.E. Fox 20, AE grade, with 28" barrels made in 1919.

Gentlemen - some very nice pieces displayed (English, European and American) in the recent last pages. Thanks very much for taking the time to post those images.

Unorthodox design :).....first time I've seen something like that. When you are able to, a bit more details around that and it's operation will be much appreciated. Thanks,

X2 Ahsan I have changed the thread to include O/U's too, so keep those pic's coming. And again thanks to all who have been willing to share.

Since you have included O/U now, here is my humble entry, not in the same league as previously seen here, but one of my favorite guns:

Winchester 101 20g XTR/LTW Pigeon Grade

Grouser, love that Simpson. I have been looking for a nice pre war 16 gauge Simpson for quite some time.

North of 58, those are some lovely guns you've put up. I especially like the wood on your Parker DH. I have been searching for a Manufrance Ideal ever since I stupidly passed on one Mark had. I have a soft spot for Foxes. Took a 20 lb turkey this spring with a AE 12 gauge, 30" full and full. It originally was my great grandfather's. I have a photo of my grandfather from 1942 with the Fox and a turkey. I think this year's bird was the first turkey for the Fox since that photo.

Mark, you know Parker's aren't my favorites but that DH looks fantastic. Great to see all these wonderful guns. Keep it up everyone.

I'd post some of my own but lost all my backlog of photos in a tragic computer accident in April and haven't got around to taking more yet. Will have to get the camera out and get on that.

I just realized that I don't have any pictures of the whole thing... I'll have to wait for the sun to come out and take some more!

Ideal

Nathan, what looks like a button on the side of the barrel is actually a registration sticker. I'm not sure why that is on there, the serial number is clearly marked in several places on the barrels and breech face. It was actually made by Manufacture Francaise d'Armes and Cycles, before they changed the company name to Manufrance. The French had some unusual ways of doing things but the results make a terrific gun. I'll try to describe it briefly for the few who care. This one has a pretty cool spring loaded retractable sling in the butt. It has loaded chamber indicators. It weighs a little less than 5 3/4 lbs and is nicely balanced in spite of the long barrels. The double trigger guards were called "Lunette" by the maker but are often referred to as eyeglass guards in North America. Fine for warm weather but when gloves are needed it goes back in the safe. They were dropped for convential guards around 1907.
The Ideal came out in 1887. I think that was a little before Dickson of Scotland introduced their round action which it resembles on the surface. The lock up has a two bite horizontal Purdey bolt and a vertical double-bite cylindrical bolt. Closes like a vault and I've never read of one getting loose. The barrels are chopper lump with a sunken rib. This is the only one I've heard of that doesn't have the grade engraved on the exposed bottom of the barrel lug, but I think this is a grade 4. They had from grade 1-8, plus their Perfection model which was top of the line. Their top grades are stunning. They made a few double rifles on this action. I'd love to find one of those. If anyone is interested in photos of certain parts let me know and I'll try to post them.

You guys have some beautiful SxS's, very nice. I would definitely like to add some to my gun room as it's lacking in that department:redface: Hell my entire shotgun selection is pretty weak, almost sad, but I just can't convince the wife of that fact:confused:

Anyways here is my lone SxS, which I am almost embarrassed to share in the company of these fine guns. It's a Spanish 16ga and I believe the maker is Elgoibar but as to the age etc I am not sure can't be too exciting as it cost $150  However it swings and plucks the odd grouse and chucker when I am on the ball.

Since we're allowed to post O/U's here is my only one a 12ga Franchi Alcione, which I mostly use for Skeet, 5 Stand , and Sporting clays. This year I think I'll take her bird hunting though.

Sorry about some of the picture quality I was getting some pretty bad shadows and bright shines. Anyways really enjoy everybody's doubles and hope there are more to come:)

No cause for embarrassment whatsoever :). Any "toy" an individual is able to acquire in pursuit of a favoutrite pastime after addressing his/her more immediate requirements should be an item of pride and joy.

Your 16ga looks quite nice though.....I imagine maybe a 12ga frame? Any idea on weight? Suggest use Kent Ultimate Upland if you haven't already done so as those shells generally pattern well out of most "shotties" (slang - please refer to Tacticool dictionary :D)
..... a bit expensive but reasonable in terms of a purchase for hunting where only a few boxes meet the need.

SxS & o/u

Well since we have added O/U's, I will introduce you to my German and Italian friends. 1st up is my 16gauge Merkei O/U -- 28" bls, ejectors & 6lb 5oz. This has been my "go to" gun for Grouse and Pheasants for the last 4 years and I can say (happly) that I haven't missed a bird that I've pulled on yet. She came to me from Austria via Argentina and Prince Edward Island.I registered her as a 200E for lack of not finding any record of a Merkel with this oak leaf engraving as you can note in the picture.
2nd up is my FAIR Rizzini Jubillee Prestige 28ga. This little joy sports 28" bls and comes in at 6 lb 1oz. Haven't hunted her yet but by the way she likes me at clays, i'm confident that the woodcock & grouse will catch hell this fall.
Cheers, John

SxS's

Here's a few more doubles.
1st up is a Belgian gun made by N.Lajot, Leige 12ga 27"bbls full/full, double triggers and ejectors. I aquired this gun from a WWII vet who brought it home after the war.

guns044.jpg

2nd is an English gun made by Adams & CO 12ga 25"bbls IC/Full, Churchill rib, double triggers, cocking indicators,on a thumb opener/snap action. The gun is a sidelock but a Woodward patent lock with coil springs. The locks have only 2 moving parts each and are the simplest design I have ever seen yet very robust. The gun was originally a 16ga but was rebarreled to 12ga at some point, I am in the process of restocking her and have the butt mostly done and the forearm half done. I sawed the blank for the stock my self 4 years ago and the completion has been very slow because I keep putting the gun back togeather to take it hunting. Maybe this winter.

I have always loved the look of a merkel shotgun. Have never held one but i did hold a simson suhl (I believe thats the name) in 16 guage that fit like a glove. Loved the raised cheek piece. Very nice shotguns. Good to see this thread is having some success.

benelli one,
If you ever have the need to take a little drive, I'm in Fredericton. It's only about an hour and 1/2 & you can be my guest at the Fredericton Trap & skeet Club & you can shoot the Merkel or the Simson. (Sunday afternoons, Tuesdays @ 6pm & Wednesday evenings beginning at 5:30
Cheers, John

Well thanks, i believe i have shot there before at one of the browning shoots. It sure would be nice to see that merkel. I sure have developed a soft spot for doubles, grouse, and woodcock!
