Finally, I have pimped out my Maverick 88 to a level that I am satisfied with. Here's the beast, in all her 3" munching glory.

Note: I paid $200 for the 88 in stock form. Add ons:

- Burris fast fire $220
- ATI 6 position folding stock $90
- Simple rail mount for red dot $15
- ATI aluminum heat shield with ghost ring sight $63
- Sling rings $20

Total price tag: $608

Not bad! That's a lot of bang for your buck.

I like that heat shield. How well do the ghost ring sights on it work?

Perhaps it's a case of "installer error", but the heat shield shifts around once the barrel gets hot. I have only put a box of slugs through it since I installed the shield, so there may be some tweaking I can do.

Basically, the barrel clamp that the shield installs onto has 3M tape underneath to protect the barrel. This gets hot and it starts to slide around. I will be experimenting with various ways to lock it down permanently without doing lasting damage to the barrel. I hear JB Weld can handle heat and will stick just about anything to anything.

Overall, I wouldn't use the ghost ring sights on this heat shield for anything over 25m, but that just might be my inexperience at work.

JB Weld releases @ 600 degrees, thats how you remove it from surfaces that can handle the heat. I think it lets go at a lower temp to be honest but I didnt have my digital thermometer handy when I did it.
