Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

Nice to see some unpinned Mags.
How do you like it?
What do your AK friends think of it?

:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

I absolutely LOVE the rifle. My friends love any and all firearms, the one's who own AK's love my VZ but I haven't seen any of them buy one yet... LOL. Aftermarket for these rifles can get pretty expensive.

Hopefully you guys can unpin those mags soon, but it sounds as unlikely as us being able to own the shortys without jumping through hoops.

Nice! How did you attach the side rails?

Was pretty darn easy.

Removed upper handguard

Pre-assembled NEA rail segment - threading the screws through the back plate but leaving enough gap for it to saddle the lower handguard.

Line it up to where the vent holes in the upper will fall onto the screws.

Replace upper handguard - Here a file may be necessarily to prevent the screws from making slight divits into the aluminum handguards. My NEA upper fits tight and requires a rubber mallet for installation (or a heavy hit with the palm). Created very small thread divits in the handguards, not noticeable.. if anything it will hold zero better....!

Tighten the screws and its ready to go. The real test would be with the 4' segment and mounting a sling to it. I plan on trying it out when I order the Tactical Bolt Release.

Hopefully he didn't just weld it. I was checking out review of an American made ambi BCG on another forum and pretty much everyone that used it had the extra handle break off as is was only welded. I think one of the NEA guys even commented on it. Just be sure to wear your eye pro. Please let us know how it goes.

It's definitely not just welded, they drilled the bolt carrier. I'm going to call the guy who did it tomorrow, he was off the day I picked it up.

Thats it stock. I cant wait to dig into this project.

I am not sure if I love those holsters or hate them. I have one too. They are great for protecting your gun, but brutal for efficient drawing of the firearm.

I definitely hate them. While they may be good for retention, there are many other brands and types of holsters that do that better (Safariland anyone?). And the draw is stupid clumsy or it could just be me but why reinforce unwanted muscle memory and create training scars. Everyone I know who deployed to Afghanistan bought a new holster if they were issued one and we even have plenty of guys who buy new holsters just to train with something better.

Sorry for the hijack.

M-12

I'm not a big fan of the M-12 holster but I had one that went right onto the set-up for lack of better options at the time... It latched the Molle straps and feels less awkward then you would think, awkward still, just less.. No problems drawing other than its a flap holster and a flap gets in your way  ... With that being said its good at holding a sidearm.... really don't have feelings towards or against it, but it will be replaced sometime.
