I'm slowly getting better but I don't know how much better I can do. 25 yards is HARD!

Weaver stance at 25 yards with my own cast lead boolits. :) 1" lines. 8 out of 10 landed 8.5x11" target and 7 within 6" circle.

Sig P226 9mm

UPDATE: It doesn't have to be kick ass. Just your best. 3 pages so far and mine is the worse. LOL! If everyone can post distance, gun, stance and ammo detail would be nice.

Wanna get better? Two things I did that made a huge difference in the size of my groups at 25yd:

-bigger target (I know, I know, I didn't think it make a difference either but it did)

-dry fire at home as much as you can concentrating on proper sight alignment and trigger technique (front sight and roll the trigger; make sure your sights stay steady when the gun clicks)

My favorite target as of late is the BT-5S:

The light centre lets me see that my sights are lined up better than a solid black target. These targets are available for $15/100. They do come from the states so there will be some brokerage fees and taxes due at the border; I think the total cost for me was just under $60. (I ordered 200) Still, $0.30 per target is a good investment considering that if you bring a roll of tape with you to the range, you can use it for hundreds of shots. (I bring a wide roll of masking tape and completely recover the middle of the target once it becomes too chewed up to tape up the individual holes)

Hope this helps and good luck shrinking those groups! :)

Couldn't resist :)

The first target is a B27... (I fired all of these targets using my S&W PPC Revolver)...

Total of 36 shots on the target as follows:

  • 12 fired at 7 yards (in 20 seconds with a reload)
  • 18 rounds fired at 25 yards (6 rounds standing unsupported, 6 rounds standing left hand barricade, 6 rounds standing right hand barricade, all in 90 seconds)
  • 6 rounds at 25 yards fired standing unsupported (in 12 seconds)

The second target (actually there are 2 of them side by side) are B34 targets which are used at 25 yards but is reduced size in order to simulate firing at 50 yards (fired with same gun)...

Total of 24 shots on the target as follows:

  • 18 shots fired left handed from left side of barricade
  • 6 shots fired right handed from right side of baarricade

Keep in mind that if your gun is not capable of shooting 2" groups then no matter how good you are it still won't shoot 2" groups. Ammo also plays a factor... good guns can easily shoot poorly as a result of ammunition... and the cost of the ammo is not what decides good ammo. Good ammo is what your specific gun "likes" (meaning what it shoots the best groups with). The only proper way to test a gun and ammo combination is by using a ransom rest (or similar device).

Lastly... get some coaching from someone who truly knows the basics of handgun shooting and who can explain the "process" to you (it is a process). Then with patience and practice you will see your targets improve.

A really good shooter can make mediocre guns look good but a weak shooter is a weak shooter no matter how good the equipment is.

I know that Bullseye and PPC shooting are not very popular anymore (not enough action for many people) but those two disciplines were fantastic at teaching shooters the basic foundations of shooting accurately.

Just my opinion :)

great targets. Now,...where these SA or DA with the revolver? Regardless,...great work.

My average is worse than this but this one I took a pic of as its one of my best. Standing at 25 yards (actually not sure if our range is 20 or 25 yards).
6 shots, S&W 586....

Six shots into just over 3". I'm pretty sure I'm the weak link in this equation.

Must've been quite a distance, I don't see a much larger hole where the plastic wad penetrated :p

I rarely shoot groups with my pistols, I like clays at 50y with my Super BlackHawk, I can usually get 3-4 clays per 6 shots. And with the glock, I'm usually banging plates a whole lot closer. I think with the Glock, at 25 yards, I'd knock down all 6-6" plates, with the 10 round magazine. With the SBH, 6inch plates would just be boring, unless I could shoot from the 100y line, like we used to be able to.
