LH Rem 700
Bevan King 22" Barrel 1:10 twist
NECG sights
Wenig Nutmeg laminated stock with ebony grip cap and forend (glass bedding)
Leupold QR rings and bases
Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 B&C

Shoots the Wby 210 gr Partition ammo into 1/2" 3-shot groups at 100 yards - muzzle velocity @ 2750 fps.
Also likes the 215 gr SGK at 2751 fps, and 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Have taken a black bear with this load.
Need to take it hunting more, for moose, elk, and bison.

Definitely my go-to cartridge for elk and moose for the last 14 years

Defiance Machine Rebel action
Triggertech Primary
Benchmark 23" 3 contour fluted
McMillan Hunters Edge stock
Leupold Vx3 3.5-10x40 CDS

I mainly use 225gr Nosler Accubonds @ 2550 fps, but it also loves 185gr TTSX @ 2840

Those are pretty mild loads aren’t they?

I do not have pressure testing equipment so cannot say for sure. I have never flirted with high PSI in this cartridge, recoil is plenty as-is

Nosler's data is about same as my handloads and Hodgdon is a bit faster yet , both use 24" barrels

I had a pre-64 model 70 fitted with a RKS barrel. Mostly shot 210 partitions and it was a great rifle. Eventually I decided I preferred a 9.3 when I felt the need for greater than .30 caliber.

Fair enough, just seem to be on the slower side compared to my max load .35 Whelen.

I built one many years ago using a M98 military action, Douglas barrel, synthetic stock, metal all Teflon coated. It was accurate and with 250gr Partitions it was deadly on several elk and whitetail. I don't have any pics of it unfortunately and it went down the road to fund some other purchase many years ago. Great cartridge for sure.

Cooper Montana M52 Jackson Hunter 338-06, Excalibre stock; 21" chopped stainless fluted bbl & bolt, cerakote. Optics in detach Talley's ready for flavour of the day.... VX-R 1.25x4 firedot for up close and personal or the VX3i 3.5-10 for those open areas. Both scopes tag along eagerly awaiting their turn to gittr done !! :ROFLMAO:

Whelen will always be faster at the muzzle than 338-06 with same weight bullet (same length barrel, same PSI), just like a 338-06 is faster than a 30-06 and a 30-06 is faster than a 270

Yesterday I shot 180gr Accubonds for the first time, 2903 fps with H4895 and six shots in an inch at 100 meters - if I ever take the rifle for deer, this should be a good load!

For sure and I understand the larger calibers having higher velocity. I’m getting 2950fps with 200gr TTSX and 2850fps with the 225gr TSX.

I killed a handful of deer/black bear with my weatherby ultralight using the older 180 ballistic tip, it was spectacular. Unfortunately I sold the rifle before they introduced the 180 accubond.

30-06 will easily shoot 180 s at over 2900 fps with the RIGHT load and Flatter with a better BC and Penetrate Better with a higher SD !;)
