Lets see your complete 3 Gun Set-Up (Pics Please!)

I hope you are joking. I can't figure out how you could make an 870 be worth $2K

Ok maybe they're not worth $2k... but the amount of work done to them do raise the price that high.

But hey, if I'm getting a Versamax it'll be about $1700 after modifications.

Holy Crap!! What modifications do you plan to do to the VersaMax that will cost you that much?? I got my lifter done by Casey that cost me $80 bones. I dremeled out my front hand guard myself to make more room for my weak hand loads, opened up the loading gate and removed a spring myself, cut down the magazine spring to make loading smoother and presto, done. The only other thing I want to do is open up the loading port, #### Proenekke is in my 3-Gun league did his Benelli like a champ and said he would show me how. Most of this stuff a monkey could do with a youtube video. If you are spending $600 on gun smithing on your versamax, you are wasting money and should have just bought the benelli M2 to start with.

Are you trying to start with a Versamax Sportsman and cut down the barrel to squeeze in 1 extra round? I started with the Tactical. 1 round off the start of a COF if you get to start loaded does not make much of a difference, and that is only if you get to start loaded. 6+1 or 7+1, really? Not much of a difference, specially for $600.

Bare bones is buy a shotgun and compete.

Full kit if you want to fully "option out" and customize your gun:
Extended lifter
magazine tube
follower
charging handle
oversize safety
oversize shell latch button
fiber optic sight of your choice
getting the loading port and other internal mods done by someone who actually knows what they are doing vs taking advice from a friend with a dremel who surfs the internet or a youtube vid... (not meant as a jab at #### Proenekke, don't know him or his abilities, just meant as a general comment)

These things add up.

Casey's demo Versamax complete without the Mesa Tactical front QD mount is $1500, plus tax = $1695. It's a very very sweet Versamax.

I don't see what you're getting at, since a base M2 will also need the same modifications done and it will end up being way more expensive than going for Versamax. And you get 7 rounds on the VM. Casey can get all replacement parts from Remington which is important to me as a competitor.

I understand not everyone opening thier loading port themselves, hell, I want someone who has done a good job (Proenekke) to give me a hand on mine. I'm not sure what "internal mods" would be required that would make a significant improvent. This is where my comment about purchasing the M2 came in. I have run both my Versamax and the M2. If the Versamax doesnt feel the way you like it, the Benelli makes more sense. I see all these threads about guys lightening bolts etc. but can anyone truly out run thier shotgun and stay on target? These thing run and cycle pretty fast and the recoil of the round negates "lightening" a bolt. I think most of the "internal" mods are sales pitches and novelties, but to each thier own I guess. Free market an all.

There's shell latch mods to reduce the pressure required to feed rounds into the tube for quicker reloads.

I'm still researching those but they're on my Dremel to-do list for the winter.

Yup, I relieved mine a bit with the dremel and removed one of the springs from behind the latch. The spring only reduces the pressure required for the Shell Catch Button though. You have to be carefull not to take off too much material or it won't retain shells under recoil. I just kept taking a little off till it got smooth, then tested it at the range. I'm sure I could take more off, but I would rather have it reliable. Some guys just bend them backwards a little instead of dremeling them.

Its great you have someone who you trust to show you what/how to tackle your loading port.
I know of a couple shotguns relegated to parts guns because their owners got too excited.
There are ways to shape the port so the shells literally glide right in.

As for the internal mods, the shell latch needs some work, but there are a few other areas as well that are more than just "sales pitches and novelties".
But really that all depends on how much you compete and what is an acceptable result.

yes :)
There are people who can run the gun quickly, but it isn't necessary to place well at matches.
You don't win based on split times.

Foil lined dump pouch full of lit charcoal briquettes. Should be able to cook on the move. Just don't put any partially filled mags into it.

From my experience (couple years), shotgun stages are all about reloading. I own a KSG and a Supernova. I would never take out my KSG at a match. If I'm shooting a match, Benelli all the way.
