Let's See Your Mauser Sporters

My custom 7 X 57

Had this built 15 years ago and it's still my favorite rifle, every year I'll take 2 or 3 other guns to the hunt camp ..... but every morning this is the rifle I take with me and have shot more game with this than any of my others.

Everything but the stock was ordered from Brownell's.
Barrel band swivel, inletted rear swivel, 3 position safety, open sights, steel grip cap and butt plate. Fitted with Leupold 1.5 X 4.5 that I'm going to replace with a Leupold fixed 2.5X.
Customed stocked and built by Matt Reinke in the Ottawa Valley. He is now working on 300 H&H and 375 H&H same as this but built on the Sako FN actions.

Only wish I had some of the military markings on the action removed first, but I didn't know any better then. All I had was a picture of what I wanted it to look like.

Will try and get more detailed pix later, always running out of time.

I don't have a spiffy Mauser like most of you guys seem to, just a 1912-built Model B that was bought in 1913 in the Army & Navy Stores, Gt Victoria Street, London, for the Price family to take out with them to their new life in Rhodesia as tobacco-farmers.

It was used for most of that time as a pot-meat getter, and came back with their descendants in 1989 when Mugabe started his activities in earnest. I had been looking for a 7x57 Mauser, and this came up in auction for a pretty near ridiculous price of £120 [then around Can$350 or so].

I've had it ever since.

It's #67562, if anybody is counting, and prefers the bullets that I can't actually have here in yUK - the long bearing surface 175gr round-nose Nosler - only available as soft-points.

That is a ridiculous price.... I would love to own a classic original sporter.

M8; Yes that is an 8x57 - Large ring Mauser, lightly & badly engraved, had DSTs but the rear trigger was missing so installed a normal military trigger to do for now. --- John303.

Just for interest, from the top #1 is a .220 Swift, Rem. / # 2 is a 22.250 Rem. Weatherby / #3 is a 6mm Rem. Custom FN Supreme Mauser / #4 is a 30.06 C&H / #5 is a 8x57 Mauser / #6 is a 8x57 Meffert? Mauser / #7 is a 7x57 Brno 21h with factory scope / #8 is a 32.20 92 Winchester / #9 is a 22lr Weatherby semi auto.

thanks John303 any idea for what year? the one I have has dst but i disconnected the second one (too unsafe for hunting as it's a hair trigger)

M8; Year of manufacture would be a guess on my part at best, Shortly after WW2, I would suspect. As far as the DSTs go, I believe you can fire the gun using only the front trigger but should you need to, you can preset the front to a "hair" using the rear trigger, best of both worlds actually. Check PM. --- John

M8; Check your pm, I sent you one yesterday. That is the problem with removing the trigger and using only the front one. It can be fired front only and though I've never tested one for pull it would be as you say, quite hard. Yes there are many after market triggers for the Mauser< for example Timney, I've used a couple myself. Go to Brownells web site and see what they have / go to EE and post your need and I'm sure someone in Canada will have one. --- John
