While I'm usually in the "why can't we get along camp" I have said all I have to say about bear defence and remote areas. Most will never encounter an aggressive bear and the extreme minority that does will be better served by bear spray and a change of location than a .454 casull lever action (which is still a cool gun).
I applaud Ardent's attempts to bring not only this thread but a cool medium bore back to life.
Now that we are in fantasy territory I'm thinking of a 50 Alaskan Siamese Mauser with an 18.5 inch barrel and ghost ring sights, for the smaller stuff a .243 BRNO stutzen rebarreled to .358. For everything else there's the Bighorn 500 S&W lever action.
