LET'S SEE YOUR WINCHESTER MODEL 21's

This is a M21 20 gauge skeet gun that was owned by a friend who has found it a new home. It was engraved after market by Heidi Hiptmayer. She was a highly regarded engraver who got her training in Belgium. Her husband, Claude, was an accomplished stocker, also trained in Belgium. They came to Canada in the 70's and initially worked for Browning Canada and then set up their own shop.

Just curious Bill. As a bit of non Winchester engraving on that M21, and with half the value of M21 being their collectiblity in the US market and given the US collectible market's penchant for originality, isn't that a bit of heresy that devalues the gun? BTW, I like it.

Some very nice 21's in this thread. James, I would think the engraving on that 21 would distract from a true Winchester collector. I know for me I don't like it at all. But that is a personal thing as far as liking or disliking something. But the originality aspect doesn't change. But that might not matter to some potential owners. Would partially depend on how uncommon the gun is or price at selling time. Or like a lot of things, just comes down to how badly someone needs to have it.

Yes, the real serious Winchester collectors want originality. However, for those of us who are shooters more than collectors well executed engraving like that of Heide Hiptmayr will enhance the value of the gun. On the other hand if the engraving is of poor quality the value of the gun will decrease. Likewise, any restoration such as stock refinishing or reblueing of a poor quality will have a negative impact on the value of the firearm.

Custom Ruger Red Label 20 Ga

While on the subject of the Hiptmayr's, I would like to share this 20 ga Ruger Red Label with you. It was stocked by Klas and engraved by Heidi. Best of all it fits me perfectly.

Bill, I have various adoption plans available for your consideration starting with the ever-popular Honorary Nephew with no upfront cost to you. With this one, I come over once in awhile staying in the basement and play New Order at a moderate volume level. Advanced plans with more commitment are possible where, for instance, you might get to intercede on my behalf with the cops and their trumped up charges but then the stereo playing might be a little louder when I get out. And breakfast conversations might be silent or at least awkward. Don't ask me if I'm going to look for a "job working for the man" with this option.
I'm totally worth it.

Don't jump to conclusions, John. Many of the guns shown here have found new homes to help fund my retirement.
We can, however, have a working agreement to help each other in our hunting and collecting indulgences.
Cheers

Funning aside, Bill, you can be my honorary uncle just due to your taste in the quality firearms that have passed through your collection. No upfront or downstream costs in this unlimited time offer.

Stunning Red Label Bill. Funny, I was just looking at one yesterday on Claudio’s bench.

John don’t give up on that honorary nephew thing. Bill’s still got some wonders. ;)

When covid is over, we will have to make a serious effort to get together with all the Ontario double collectors. I grew up in Ontario and it would be fun to go back for a visit.

Here is a Win M12 custom by the Hiptmayers. The engraving by Heidi is inspired by Winchester's #4 style engraving. When I purchased this gun it had not been checkered so I sent it to Klaus and he did it in the Winchester pigeon grade style.

Bill I'm usually big on Pre-64 Winchester originality but your Model 12 is the exception. I believe most Winchester guys would love to own that gun.

Yes it is a beautiful gun but I'm sure the Winchester purists would prefer originality. I shot some trap with this gun and it sure got lots of attention.

Engraved m12

Here's a close up of the receiver of the M12. Beautiful engraving by Heidi H.
