Let's talk turkey!

I have 3 flocks on my property..... one has 32 birds... the other has 14 and there is a "mature" flock of 4..... the Tom that is hanging with them has about an 8 inch beard.... :)... and those are only the three I know of....
 
I got high hopes for this turkey season. All wheat and barley behind my place this spring. Seen about 75 turkeys today, 5 big toms together.



Whats a good box call? I want to buy a quality one that will last, since my current one is getting wore out coyote hunting LOL

I've bought 2 primos ones in the past and thought they were junk, the one I use now is just a locally made -great call.
 
Heartbreaker is definitely a good call...one ireally want to try is the mad call with the aluminum sides... You can change the call's tone by holding the base in different areas... Very cool... Also waterproof...
 
I have locate 3 very prolific roosting site near Vankleek Hill, look like there is so many this year, guess it will be gobbling furie ... JP.
 
Just confirmed permission on property number 11 for Turkeys. Time it seems will be the limiting factor just like last year. I saw a flock on monday with nearly 70 birds in it.

I am holding out for a limb hanger this year.
 
Is there a lot of hunting pressure for birds in you area? I've only got one good turkey spot, and I'm afraid to ask for more because every chunk of land that holds turkeys already has a bunch of people hunting it.
 
I know one thing, when these buggers fly up to their roost just before dark it'll jump you right out of your deer stand they make so much damn noise. The funny part is watching them trying to hold onto the 1/2" branch they decided to sleep in as it's bending back down to the ground from all the weight.

Just bought a Madcall at Sail this weekend past on sale, It was about half price with a crow call included.
 
So superbrad you are obviously THE turkey expert here, if I were to come down there is it possible for a non-resident Canadian to harvest a turkey in Ont? What variation are your turkeys and will you show me how to CORRECTLY pose with a turkey. I guess my hornet is out of the question. You really have to shoot these things with a shotgun? Seriously? I want to know how you kill these big birds at 200 mtrs with a f####ng shotgun, I gotta see this.
 
Hahahaha... You are welcome here and yes... Non residents can hunt them... I think you have to take the ofah course though...

Lots of knowledgeable turkey folk here... Can't say I have ever reached out and touched one that far... Usually 10-20 meters max...

We have eastern turkey here... :)
