Non-Ontario Residents still have to take our Turkey Hunter Education Course.Any monkey can shoot a turkey at 200 metres with a .22 Hornet, last bird I killed was at 7 yards.

For a non-resident Turkeys are alot of trouble, might be easier to hunt in the states instead. I know you've been to Texas already but you can take 4 birds there, as opposed to our two.

7 yards is nice and close... cool!

Closest I have come is about 10... with a hen at about 5 at the same time.... that was a pain in the ass.... trying to get the bead on the Tom without starting the stupid hen squawking.....lol
 
Still new to turkey hunting, I know a cluck is good and a putt is bad, but they sound so similar to me and cant tell which one I am doing! Any advice on how to distinguish the two, I am using a box call and a slate call.

Yes it is very easy,

99% of hunters can not do a Putt or alarm call. The calls are both clucks but what seperates them is the rythum of the call in which a cluck is only 1 or 2 notes and a putt is up to 10 notes together.

BUK on any call is a Cluck which means "Look" or an attention call for other birds...
 
A couples of weeks before opening day i just have my diafram in my mouth all the time, like a second nature... JP.
 
Has anybody used the squeeling hen call? Any advice on the proper use/time for it? All I know about it is that the sound makes my dog cry!

Sorry, but I think that is BS.

Louder???? The distance, weather and the way a bird is facing affects how loud it is.

There are lots of raspy jakes out there.

Well.... you are entitled to your opinion... no need to apologize....

Typically when a gobbler gobbles towards a prospective mate he turn his head towards her as he is trying to get her attention.... just as you would when you are speaking to someone... I find a tom gobble to be much more raspy and powerful then a jake gobble which is more pitchy and hollow than anything.... Obviously distance is a factor but they are never all that far when you hear them as they have to be close enough to want to respond to your hen call....

I can't honestly say I have never been wrong when listening to gobbles but I can say that I do a lot of run and gun style turkey hunting and out of the 5-6 birds I have taken using that hunting style only one of the birds I set up on ended up being a jake.... That being said I certainly haven't called in nearly as many as I have set up on....lol
 
Have to go with Superbrad on this one, the dominant bird by is gooble will show the difference, jakes high pitch goobles are hard to differency from each other but an older boss will have a raspy tone, we are talking when the birds are closing in, now if you ear them at one K it may be harder to tell the difference... JP.

Mostly hens... a couple of jakes.... there were 4 toms two smaller and two large that always straggle behind this flock.... I waited for them to come alongside the house and pop out for a pic but they never showed....me going to the window spooked them as you can see in the pic... Toms must have crossed the road further down.... Ten birds pictured ... actually 20 some in that flock....

And yes... that's my dad's exploder... we were having coffee.... lol
 
Is it legal to use a hockey stick to hunt turkey? These two little toms keep picking a fight with their reflections in the door, about 3' from my computer.

Oh I know all too well. I had what I thought was a killer field scouted and secured last spring. 4 long beards (good 11"+), 5 6-7" bearded toms and a half dozen jakes, using the field daily. I even got to watch a huge fight between them all the day I went to setup my blind. Then, about a week before the season they all fvcked off and started using other fields, only occasionally using the field I had permission for.
 
Lol... You guys are near me... I just got 400 more acres of permissions today..m maybe you - and turleyslayer can hook up during season... Even if only for a coffee and story swap...
