I happened to come across a Redfield Revolution in 2-7x33, when I ran the specs it almost identical to the current Leupy VX Freedom. For those that have had or have both currently, would you say Leupold just basically re-branded the old Revolutions under the Freedom line?

From my recollection the vx1 and vx2 got combined to make the Freedom.

I vaguely remember something on here stating it was a VX 1 or 2 with a lesser quality coating on the tube itself. Definitely remember them being out of Oregon though

If I had to choose, it would be the Revolution.
Good choice.

I second you on that.

Rifleman, Freedom are still nice scopes but the premium price is not warranted.

Instead of a Freedom I'd hunt around for a older Bushnell 4200.
Rock solid scopes for $300 used.

BUT as a caveat, since the warranty center moved to the USA, its a real PITA to get replacements

I heard something similar, Freedom were made with VX2 glass in a VX1 tube.
If that were the case Grain they'd be a better scope and they just arent. Freedom feels a lot cheaper to me + they're fugly with the big ribbed zoom ring. I'm in the process of replacing the 4 Leupold Freedom rimfires I have on some of my CZs and Tikkas and replacing them with much better for half or less the price...Bushnell 3200s and 4200s.

Leupolds smoking the drapes if they think a Freedom is worth $500 - $900 but guys will buy them just because they're Leupolds.

I do have an older Elite 4200 2.5-10x40. It’s been on a plethora of setups from 308Win to 300WSM and just about everything in between. Just a rock solid optic even at over a 1lb+

I don't know if my eyes are messed up but the VX Freedom scopes do not do it for me at all. Slightly fuzzy at the edges although clear otherwise. All of them. Bushnell Elite 4200s and an older Leupold Ultimate Slam all day long. Even the Burris Fullfield 2 3-9x40 work better for me. YMMV.

The current Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7x33m scopes are discontinued items.

The used Supply of the utilitarian 2-7x32 and 3-9x40 are drying up.

Id be confident to use any gun topped off with a 3200 or 4200

I bought some when they were reasonable, paid $270 for a couple 2-7x Rimfires, and $400 for a 4-12. I also paid $675 for a 4-12 w/ adjustable parallax. Ended up selling them all for a profit as they've almost doubled in price. I like Leupold, but they've jacked the prices into not buying neighborhoods.

Some of the Bushnails have short eye relief. Like 3" at best on low magnification on the 3500, 2-7x32.

Keep that in mind.

As for the VX-Freedom or the likes, Redfield - It's Freedom from hitting accurately, plus brand tax and all the other gripes.. !

Eye relief hasnt been an issue on my .22s, 17hmrs, 22wmr, or any of the 17H, .204s, .222s etc. Haven't scoped myself with any of them yet even when I run compressed loads in the 17H. :)
