Leupold problems

I had a very good experience with Korth's handling of a Leupold warranty issue.

I received a new-to-me (aka used) Leupold scope that was missing the gas plug. I contacted Korth to see if a replacement plug was available and they suggested I send the scope back for inspection and to make sure it was still properly gas purged. Since shipping is not cheap, I asked if I could send in a few other older Leupolds for a general inspection. "Sure, please just indicate what you need looked at in your letter.", was their reply.

I ended up sending in 4 scopes that were received by Korth mid-January, and yesterday I received them back with full inspection reports. My wait was under two months, which was a pleasant surprise as I was expecting them to be quite busy these days and was prepared to wait longer.

Korth re-gassed all the scopes, replaced a couple of minor parts and seals, cleaned the lens inside-and-out, and inspected/confirmed calibration and tracking. I received all the scopes back in their original boxes, exactly as I'd sent them with a detailed explanation of what was done.

My only "disappointment" was that the oldest scope I sent, a Leupold M8-3x, was confirmed by Korth to not be tracking and because parts are no longer available, I received back a NIB FX-3 6x42 replacement. The disappointment was that the M8-3x is a unique scope that has a bit of a cult following, so not being able to get it repaired was disappointing, but understandable. I would have also appreciated a call/email from Korth to tell me about the replacement of the M8-3x with the 6x42 --- had I had the option, I might have asked about the availability of a lower-powered replacement (2.5 or 4x as a better equivalent to the 3x). That being said, I can't fault Korth or Leupold for their excellent "no hassle" warranty service and their prompt communications when I was initially inquiry about the missing gas plug.

I was satisfied with the result and it reaffirmed my confidence in purchasing Leupold products here in Canada.

PM sent to gather more info and sort this matter out.

Yeah, I don't want any special treatment just for making noise on the internet. I called in again and was told to hurry up and wait.

I love Leupold products and anyone familiar with me on this board knows I have a TONNE of Leupold scopes, alumina accessories, binos, spotters - the works.

But - not impressed with Korth so far. I don't know if dealing with Leupold directly would have been any different.

Oh well - the good thing about having so many is that nothing is mission critical to put meat on the table. First world problems!

Leupold is marketed Bushnell but worse. Stay away at all cost.

That's....definitely not true.

I will say that their current production dovetail rimfire rings are TRASH. Otherwise, I've been tickled pink by their PRODUCTS...

I will also say that I got a VX-Freedom from a very reputable retailer which had marks on the tube from the factory. Not scope rings marks, just marks - cosmetic damage. It was sealed and the box was undamaged.
