Lever Action in .45ACP ???

So...they have been built and still are by some custom shops, counting all the posts together. My co-worker was right. Now my task is to find one that won't turn out to be a 2500$ plus investment.
As others have stated: " Why would you..." My answer is : "Because I want to!" If the shoe doesn't fit you, does not necessarily mean it doesn't fit me. ;o))

They are using 1911's in cowboy shooting matches now?

to elaborate a little more...Wild Bunch (remember the end of the cowboy era and into the modern era movie) is a bastardized form of Cowboy with a few rule changes...we use 1911 instead of (or in conjunction with, at some match's) the SAA clones usually used and the 97 shotguns are loaded to the ntz at the loading bench (unlike cowboy where they are staged empty).

We use the same targets, stage scenarios as the cowboy match, means no extra set-up from one sport to the other. It's a hoot, just ask my wife...couldn't keep her in ammo before, now she's hooked on Wild Bunch as well.

Sounds like fun...is wild bunch just a regional thing or coming across the whole CAS? ( sorry to derail my own threat here...)

If someone wanted to go the custom route, an older Marlin in .30 or .35 Remington might be a good place to start. I don't know how well the short cartridge would cycle in such a long action, but I imagine that is only one of a number of challenges that would have to be addressed.

You can download the "Wild Bunch" rules from the SASS site. It's been going great guns (pun intended) in the US for years and has been part of the BC SASS Champs for the past two years where my wife has been the sole female shooter both years.
The whole thing is based on the movie "The Wild Bunch" with William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates, Robert Ryan and Ben Johnson. The era is the Mexican Revolution, hence the 'modern' guns like the '97 and 1911. The other eligible shotgun is the Winchester M12, but it's not as convenient to load as the '97. Doesn't much matter if the shotgun is staged loaded.

They require a "block" to be added to the elevator so the round being fed only enters enough to clear the mag tube, holding the second round still in the mag tube the way it would with the longer case.

I have read of someone doing the short cartridge conversion and also doing a lever mod to the Marlin at the same time, essentially doing a "Short stroke" Marlin. I can't recall how they overcome the full bolt travel required to have the hammer notch catch/engage the sear with the short lever stroke.

I don't want to derail the thread and I hope you find a Spanish 92 but if you google the smith shop in Rhode island they have there own carriers for 73's and 66's. they use a stop to get around the headspace issue I believe, anyways the website shows some good pics Now I want one thanks for that by the way

And a complete gentleman - called him once from a buddy's place in Michigan who knew him from his days at Ruger, and though he didn't know me from a cross-road in Egypt he was happy to talk arcane gun stuff for about 2 hours...
