He does a nice job on refinishing case hardened color but charges an arm and a leg.

Rich that was a low blow, it hurt, but a 99, even rats look better than Winny 86's any day of the week. Even ones with Compasses.

An 1886 Win action, with a custom long stock, to fit my longer arms, and an octagon barrel 26" long with full mag tube. It wears a redfield peep sight, and it's in 45-70.
I went with the classic shotgun butt, and steel buttplate. The kick of heavy 45-70 loads is sufficiently reduced by the weight of the rifle, that a recoil pad isn't needed.

When I first saw this action, it had deep pipe wrench marks on the attached barrel, and light pitting. Unbelievable what a gunsmith can do, when he has the skills.

They were his about two years ago. He offered the bottom one to me, but I won't repeat the price, will just say it was substantial. Les
For anyone that's interested in Savage 99s, Shooter Choice in Waterloo Ontario, has got one listed in the used gun section, in .303 Savage.The price has been dropped to $200.I haven't seen it , so I don't know what shape it's in but they have it listed as good.Not my cup of tea, but I figure someone here may be looking for something like this.
