life span of an sks

I believe an unfired example would most likely last forever. Minus a fire or act of god of course lol.

If you don't maintain it, shoot corrosive, never clean it and store it outside, it'll last several life times. If you maintain it, it'll last longer than that. To my recollection there is someone here who has bought ammo by the skid and run it through an SKS, and someone else who was keeping an SKS outside in a woodshed, neither one reported any issues. Didn't someone bury one too?

"About a year".

So funny. My bud has been kicking the crap out of his norinco sks for over 20 years. Sks is like a timex watch. Go beat the piss out of her and if she cries spend your $150 and get a new one. Man kid. Kick it in the balls all you want just clean it after.

I picked up my first SKS in the late 80s. Still shooting it today after many many many crates of ammunition. No rust, nothing has warn out.

And Enfields.

Seriously though... SKS's will outlast your great grandchildren.

Yes and no. The New Zealand authorities have banned Enfields from army rifle ranges over fears that the receivers had fired uncounted numbers of uncontrolled strength rounds, and were therefore stretched and unsafe. If every SKS shooter figures how to overcharge a 7.62x39 and fire enough aimed rounds at scored targets, we are all in trouble.
