Life span/rnd count. AR 15

According to the manual that came with my DA556, service life is estimated at 6000 rounds. I suspect there's a great deal of variation however. If you aren't shooting it red-hot all the time and doing proper maintenance and lubrication, I suspect it will last a lot longer.

So at $600 for a DA or any other named Norinco with a manufacturer claimed expected service life of approx 6000 rounds you can buy 2 of them for the price of one decent brand name AR which should and more than likely will give you more than 20000 rounds of reliable service.

Does anyone still think a Norinco AR is a good deal?
With firearms as with ammo, you get what you pay for most of the time.

I'll take it easy on you,
We're talking about an AR-15? Yes? Well since the AR-15 is restricted and your talking about shooting it behind your house you're openly admitting that you are breaking the law on an open forum that has members of the RCMP as well as who knows how many anti's who are just looking for ammunition to try to show why we can't be trusted with our evil black rifles.

I suggest that from now on you do not shoot your restricted firearms anywhere other than an approved range and also that you put a little thought into what you post on the internet.

You can not use your restricted firearms legally anywhere but an approved range. Even if you're on private property you are breaking the law. If you get caught you will be charged and could lose all your firearms as well as lose the right to ever own firearms in the future.

You should know this!
I'm sorry I never said what I was shooting.i did say I'm going for my RPAL next week so how could I even own a AR15 legally? I have a SU 16 , it takes the lar mags and it is legal. It kinda looks a AR15 though. I'm asking these questions for when or if I do get a AR15. Sorry for the misunderstanding , I thought I said something bad about reloading. LOL

Lol, good to hear.
Keep enjoying your rifle :)

Bare in mind, the great thing about the AR-15, is the end user can swap out the barrel.

It's not like other guns, where if you wear it out, you have to get a smith to rebarrel it, or buy a new gun.

Buy which ever AR you like, when you finally wear out the barrel, take your pick and bolt it on.
If you like the AR and it lasts long enough in your inventory that you wear it out, you'll likely have the tools you need to do the job by then, if not done it already for fun. You'll probably also have acquired/built at least some other uppers for it by then too, slowing down the wear.

AR's are funny like that. They multiply.
I play lego with my AR constantly. I wont' be shooting the same machine next month that I'm shooting this month.
I had so many spare parts for my AR at one point, I realized that all I needed was another stripped lower, and I could build a whole nother rifle.

Stag arms 2-TR CDN LE Tactical carbine. Was thinking this? From Armseast. Now I'm doing my RPAL mid apr. So I figure I have at least 3months to decide. Also it will only be a range rifle , so that will cut the rnd count in halve. I do most of my shooting in the bush with my SU16. And it's legal because we have a 10 month coyote hunt. The Keltec is tricked out so it scratches the itch. Lol. Any thoughts on the carbine I mentioned?

I picked up a CQA from Marstar for $529 its a great deal a really nice gun that shoots very well for my first AR. I have not had a single jam or issue with this gun in any way. I have shot $3300 POV M4, $875 DPMS pretty new to AR how ever I am not seeing much diff in the guns. The newer batches of the Norinco CQA that I have seen so far are very good fit and finish. Nothing wrong with my gun or my buddys.

When compared to the DPMS you will not notice a diff. This is Canada we are shooting paper here. When it comes down to it I could not see the value at all in the POV. Slight better fit and finish but not worth $2800 more to me for shooting paper. I am sure down the road it I wear it out I will step up to something more higher end.

When it came down to it the money I saved went to ammo. Would I buy a Norinco 1911 not a chance. Maybe I just got lucky my M14 has no issues. My NP58 had no issues.

I get what your saying , but was wondering about accuracy? Does more expensive = better accuracy? I'm wishing that sometime soon we will be allowed to hunt with the AR15.... But as the saying goes.....wish in one hand and sh!t in the other and see which one fills up first.

We'd be happy to demonstrate that 2TR to you. Are you in St. John's?
Corner Brook, I will be coming to St.Johns though. I'm doing my RPAL mid apr. I don't know how long it will take to get my RPAL after that but when I do I will be in to see you. That's a fine looking carbine !

If my interest in shooting an AR rifle is only casual...a couple of thousand rounds while it's a novelty, and then a few hundred rounds a year after that...it's a very good deal. If my only option in an AR was going to cost me near or over $1000...I probably would never get one. Not everybody wants the same thing...

My last C8 had 23,000 rounds on it when I turned it in for a new rifle. Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing broke on the rifle during those 23,000 rounds. I did note that the accuracy level depreciated a bit around 10K. It was an issued rifle, so I didn't worry about things breaking and treated it like a tool and not a princess. I have to give praise to Colt Canada, they make outstanding rifles. I'm not pro-Canadian guns by any means, but I think they make the best AR on the market. I'm amazed how many rounds this platform can take before it wears out. Not many other platforms can run that many rounds before serious parts break.

I have a personally owned Armalite that I replaced the gas rings at about 3K, the gas key wasn't stake properly and had to be redone at about 4K, then the bolt "teeth" broke off near the extractor. I replaced it with an LMT bolt and ran another 8K through it without any further issues. Ironically the barrel is an heavy barrel and I've been recently shooting Hornady 75 grain "practice" ammo through it for accuracy purposes. I was shocked to learn that it shoots 1.25 MOA 10 round groups with that ammo on a consistent basis. I was using a Geissele trigger which makes a huge difference, but I'm still shocked that a non free floating, no match barrel will shoot that well.

The lower receiver will likely last at least 100,000 rounds or more on a semi auto AR15 style rifle.
The barrel will probably last at least 10K and maybe even 20k before there are serious accuracy issues.
Bolt may last as little as 5k or up to 20K or more depending on quality level.
Expect gas rings to need replacement every 5-10K
Bolt Carrier should last 30K or more
