I agree with that. I see nothing inherently wrong with 220gr in 30-06 and that's why I made the comment about the dangerous game cartridges.
Ya, they just keep plowing through.

Velocity gives you DRT results, not heavy and slow. (unless you hit the central nervous system, but I don't take spine/head shots)
DRT does not exist... There is no such thing, unless you hit it with a cannon.
I've had several deer drt, and I don't use a cannon. It's not predictable or certain, but to say it doesn't exist is too much of a stretch.
Not a very vital hit if the deer ran a KM before expiring. 300 meters, maybe, but a Km with a vital hit??
Only possibility I can think of is absolutely NO expansion of the bullet, and it penciled through.
I have been privileged to live in a game rich area of BC since I started hunting. In the intervening years,
I have shot a lot of deer. Fully 1/3 of them were DRT. But as you say, no rifle or bullet guarantees a DRT
result every time.
This years doe Whitetail ran about 75 yards before piling up after a shot that literally demolished both
her lungs.
About the farthest I have had a deer run with a properly placed hit was around 175 yards...actually
surprised me that he made it that far with no lungs. Dave.
