Light weight rifles??

You might be able to find a used kimber hunter for 1200 or a little more. A browning micro series will be just over 6lbs as will a remington mountain rifle if you can find one used they are usually close to your budget.

Rem Mtn and Mtn SS are/have been in the $12-1600 range for the last few I’ve seen in recent months, still a viable option however. Certainly no complaints with my SS version.

I sometimes regret selling my Kimber Adirondack in .308 as it was only 4lb 13oz.

Past your budget but might be helpful to have a weight reference to compare against.

There are a bunch of dealers offering the Savage 110 Lightweight Storm for under $1000. Those weigh in at around 5.5 pounds. I'd take a 110 over a Ruger American or used rifle of unknown quality.

We have a LW storm in 6.5. I haven't weighed it, but its a feather with talleys and a vx2 2-7.

The husky 1600s (the carbine) run just above 6lbs. My .270 is 7lbs scoped with a 6x Leupold.

I've got one of those.

I've been told that Sako 90 is a good rifle. Peak version in carbon fiber stock is 5.7 lbs (2.6 kg).

CZ 600 Trail is 6.2 lbs (2.8 kg).

Bergara B-14 Ridge Carbon around 6.6 lbs (3kg)

Sig Cross a bit less than 6.5 lbs (3kg)

I would think it is the same Howa as usual. The only question would be be how do you like ultralight stock.

watch out for not getting too light ...

Agreed. As discussed over the yrs here on the many UL/LW and Sheep rifle threads, getting too lite can be detrimental to consistent accuracy both on the shooters part and the rifles’. Especially in some of the newer faster/flatter cartridges now out.

Not to hijack, but has anybody tried one of the newer 4lb 7oz howas?
I keep looking at them on prophet rivers website wondering about them…

See above :d

Under 5.5 lbs and there's going to be compromises. For specialized purposes, ok.

Agree, some can live with the compromises however too many compromises lead to weakness. I prefer to go as light as possible but still have a very capable set-up.

My latest rifles are both with carbon barrels, one in 6.5CM the other in 300WM. 6.5CM bare rifle weighs 6.2lb. The heavy scopes do add drastically to the weight but help make the rifles shoot well and reduce muzzle flip. We have tried these two at targets to stupid ranges but will just as well take deer offhand at close ranges. I have lighter rifles but would not have as much faith at longer ranges with them. I was and am very sceptical about carbon barrels however these two seem to behave well so far.

Is that howa in a stockies carbon fibre or finreglass stock?

That's kimber weight territory with a detach mag and a pic rail.

Impressive
