Is it possible to purchase a very accurate lighter weight rifle for leisure target/hunting/plinking? As earlier stated in other threads, I'm interested in a rifle that can be used for all of the above minus the heavy weight.

I've had good luck with regular wooden BDL's and Tikka T3 Lite SS in heavier calibres. Can I expect the same kind of accuacy from these rifles in 222 or 223. I don't need 0.25" groups, but it must shoot under an inch. Is this possible or do I have to consider a heavier barrelled rifle that's bedded, etc? Any opinions would be welcome.

My biggest concern is buying a new rifle for this purpose, then buying a scope and then when I do sit on my bench, I'm only getting 1.25 inch groups. Any opinions would be welcome. Oh by the way, it doesn't have to be a bolt. Heard about the inexpensive NEF's. Any good for accuracy, fit and finish??? If one of these are really accurate I could put the extra money towwards a better scope?

I have a Browning A-Bolt Hunter in 22/250 that will shoot easily under an inch any time you shoot it.

Lots of LW factory guns like that. Tikkas shoot well out of the box.

There are many "walking varminters" that are avaiable off the shelf, some pricey, some not.
The Savage, Brno, Anschutz , Kimber, Cooper, Tikka, Sako, Remington, all make a good walking varminter, as well as others.
These are the ones I am familiar with however.
The price you pay is up to you!

I love mine in 223 Rem, under moa with handloads no problem for five shots. I'm sure it would do even better when bedded, trigger job, and a higher magnification scope (currently have a Burris FFII 3-9x40 on it).

Tikka T-3 lite with a sporter barrel look no further!
I have one in 22-250. I popped a small bottle yesterday at 200+yds, good little rifle. I am definitely not the best rifle shooter but I am hoping with practice and possibly some handloads to able to shoot 1 hole groups, right now I get right around the 1" at 100 with cheap White box Winchester 45Gr JHP.

T3 Lite

I have a Tikka T3 .223 that I bought from SuperCub, it shoots well under an inch with factory ammo. I am thinking about getting a new t3 .223 with the 8twist barrel and have it chambered to .223AI. I love the Tikka rifles, I think they are the best bang for the buck on the market today.;)

I bought a Browning A-bolt composite stalker in a 22-250. It weighs around 6 1/2 pounds. I can get 3/4'' groups easily with premium factory ammo at 100 yards. I think if I was to buy a new gun it would be the same gun only in a 223. The reason is cheap ammo!!!

I have a Savage .223. It shoots 1/2" groups all the time with Fed. eagle 55 gr. & Winchester 40 gr. Walmart cheapo ammo. I'm pretty sure it's more accurate than I am:D And it's light & compact, easy to carry & the accutrigger is really a good system.
