lightest (weight) moderately priced rifle in 30-06

Light Weight Moderately Priced .30-06?

How about a Stevens 200? The long action ones I've handled are still quite light. Would make a nice packing econo rifle IMHO.... [BTW, i previoiusly had one in 7mm-08...] A lot of places have them new retail for $319...

I would chose a Remington 700 SPS in 30-06, at 7.5 pounds with a Limbsaver recoil pad included. I don't know about you guys, but I find that a 30-06 kicks almost as bad as a 300 Win Mag. And if you go with a 6 lb. rifle ouch. the beauty about the SPS syntetic, is that the buttstock is hollow, and if you decide to do some target shooting at the range you can fill the buttstock with sand to add 1 extra pond of weight. Then when you go hunting again, all you have to do is dump the sand out again. Makes a huge difference to felt recoil I find.

Horse kicking

I'm pretty sure that no matter which " light weight" rifle you choose in 30-06 your going to feel it? My Stevens is in 25-06 which obviously recoils alot less than the 30 cal and if its going to be mainly a deer gun for yourself you may want to consider a 25-06. I did remove the Stevens pad and put on a Limb Saver, and I enjoy shooting the rifle, even for extended periods at the range. There have been a number of CGN folk buy these guns and I don't recall too many people complaining about excessive recoil

If I were you, I would get something in 270. It is essientially a 30-06 round with a smaller bullet.

It will take anything in Canada.

People here use it to hunt moose, deer and bear. Its a pretty popular cartridge.

wikkipedia says its a good cartridge for bolt actions... whatever

Why not look for a 308. They usually come with a shorter action which saves weight. Price wise you can't beat Savage/Stevens and they are good guns.
Nothing wrong with a 30 06 though.

Weatherby in a Vangaurd has a combo pkg out, and they even have a 1-1/2 3 shot gaurantee useing premium amo of courseRifle weights in at 6 lbs in the palstic / composite stock
my .02 cents worth and that doesnt buy much

Hmmmm.... wonder if the adding & then removal of the sand in the butt stock to increase/decrease weight for ease of shooting/ease of carry changes the point of bullet impact on target between the two???

My Tikka T3 .308 with VXIII 2.5-8 weighs 7lbs, and my T3 .300WM with VXII 3-9 weighs 7.5lbs. I can carry either all day and not notice it at all.:)

Since you're already shooting a .308, pick up a T3 in the same cal and save on ammo/reloading.

Want Lightweight without the Plastic.........
Get a 700 Titanium.
Mine is 6 lbs-2 ounces with scope and rings:cool:

Since you said you've gotta save anyways;)

Title of the thread is lightest (weight) moderately priced rifle in 30-06

Well, the Stevens 200 sells new for $319 and weighs 6 1/2 pounds.

Can't think of anything else that is close to that. Okay, okay, it's not moderately priced, it's ridiculously cheap. :D

I have personal experience with five of them and they all shoot into an inch with factory ammunition.
