A Wby Mrk-V Ultralite in 300 Winmag would be light with a Leupold UltraLite scope and rings of choice and three rounds might tip the scale at 7.5 pounds.
But, it too will kick like a mule and test ones mettle at not being recoil shy.
I'm almost embarrassed to that I feel uncomfortable shooting my No.1 in .338 Winmag (225grn boolits) with a soft recoil pad .
My back teeth rattle and there are several seconds of unpleasantness after each shot.
Sooo, the choice is yours .
Do not make a snap decision you will regret $$$ wise.

I hunted with a custom LH Model 70 in 300 Win Mag for a while. It was in a Brown Pounder and weighed less than 8lbs. Was an absolute drill with 180gr partitions at 3100 FPS. Wish I had that one back.
Is there any other light rifle that would handle the recoil better then a tikka? I generally make my own kydex type cheek pads with negative comb anyhow. I'm just wondering if there's any other brands that would be better without getting real expensive
I would go PRC for it's shorter fatter case design. A short 22" carbon alpine contour barrel with a fast twist. Something like the Christensen Ridgeline FFT. Shoot a 181 Hammer, Hornady CX or a Cutting Edge bullet, I'm on the verge of doing something like the FFT up myself. Good luck, have fun.
I know the 270 isn’t legal for bison![]()
A 270 or 7 RM with properly selected projectiles will handily kill any big game animal in Canada and beat on you a whole lot less.
He said he doesnt want to spend much on the project.
