Was at a small gun shop today and i ran into a good ol ljungman rifle. Every thing on it from the sights, muzzle break, magasine, shown that it was a swed but heres the catch... it was in 8mm mauser... it is date 1945 with a little crown over it. Is this a conversion? Trial rifle? Bubba? The rifling seemed pretty nice and it looks like its seen a bit of service.

Trying to figure out if it was worth what the person was asking (more then a 6.5 ag42) but nothing absurdly priced.

So whats up with this. And no i do not have a picture im sorry but i did get a bit of a bite on my hand while playing with it.

How do you know that it is 8mm Mauser besides them saying it is? The big part of this which makes me believe it isn't 8mm Mauser is the fact the muzzle break is there (provided it is the standard AG-42b drilled in hole muzzle break) because that modification (and all the 'b' modifications) wasn't done until after the equipment was sold to Egypt to produce the Hakim.

I don't think it would be a Hakim barrel because if it was it wouldn't have the 42b muzzle break on the rifle (unless it is a different style of muzzle break). Ask them if you could borrow a round of 6.5x55 and place the bullet on the crown, if it is 8mm it should slide right down there. If it does turn out to be 8mm Mauser I don't know what to tell you as it shouldn't have any of the 'b' standard modifications even if it was a trials gun (why would they modify a gun that they don't stock the ammo for in the first place?).

Norwegian "police troops"? at the end of the war to use the German ammo? just a hypothesis.

Norway never had the AG-42s I believe they used captured K98k anyways. I have seen it were gun stores have them mislabelled as 8mm Mauser, it is a fairly common mistake.

Don't expect a shop to let you load any rifle. Most won't let you play with a rifle if they know you have ammo for it in your pocket.
Anyway, a Hakim is an 8mm AG42B made in Egypt. Those did have a different brake. Wouldn't be dated 1945, so it likely is a re-barrel job.

Incorrect, a Hakim is a 8mm AG-42 not 42b, the b modifications were made after Sweden sold the machinery to make the AG-42 to Egypt.

OP I am not saying stick a round in the chamber, just ask if you can put a 6.5mm bullet on the crown, if it slides in all the way no issue it likely will be 8mm

Any Arabic numbers on receiver or sights?

if its a rebarrel job stay clear of it . higher chamber pressures in 8mm . ask the seller if you can remove the top wood , inspect the barrel to see if there are any Swedish markings or other on it.
