LMT gas piston is reality!

Are you sure it isn't the opposite? Milled first then stamped?

Yup. The AKM (modernized) version went back to stamped after they worked out the production issues. Since it's cheaper and easiere to make compared to milled.

I looked all of this stuff up when I was originally interested in the CZ/VZ-58 rifles. I wanted to know the different histories and lineages.

Umm no actually the rifle he first designed was a carbine that lost out to the SKS prototype. The AK-47 was design started in 1944 and entered competition in 1946.
Sounds like you got your information from wikipedia. Well, the wikipedia entry is wrong. Kalashnikov started working on the AK-47 in 1942, before designing the 7.62x41 carbine in 1943. He was working on several designs simultaneously in the early-mid 40's, with the AK being the only one to achieve large-scale success.

Regardless of whether or not he examined an STG44 at some point, it is a fact that Kalashnikov started working on the AK prototype before the German gun became available. Any examination of the STG would have taken place well after the work had already started, and thus would have been unlikely to influence the design in a significant way.

Yup some from wikepdia, but I also checked other sources which is why I believe your info is coming from "AK-47 The complete Kalashnikov Family of Assault Rifles By Duncan Long".

From everything I've read, I have to admit, I no longer think he directly copied the STG44. I agree that the internal differences prove this. That being said I do think the STG44 paved the way for the acceptance of the assault rifle design. Plus I beleive Kalashnikov may very well have been influenced to persue his efforts for an assault rifle due to the success of the STG44.

It's also well known that the Russians would never have admitted that a German design may have influenced their designs or thinking.

Ultmately though, other than the fun of looking up the history, who really cares?

Besides we all know that the VZ-58 is better anyways. So which rifle influenced the design of the VZ-58 :D:stirthepot2:

Spoke to LMT today.

The kit only works with the CQB MRP (not the rifle MRP's).

No pricing available yet from them, so no idea what price will be here.

They expect to release the 16" 1/7 Chrome Lined barrel kit in @ 30 days and hope to have pricing release very soon.

There will be a 12" barrel kit available for release about the time of the SHOT Show.

That's all the info they are giving at this time.

Mark

Is that means that we will get the 12" barrel in CANADA.

Please let me know MARK.

Thank you.

That was quite an old posting. US State Department won't approve export permits for barrel lengths under 16" so I wouldn't expect to get any 12" barrels for civilian end-users.

That may change in future but right now that's the situation.

I am sure R. Nicholls will sell Hk416 uppers to anyone who wants to spend $6k or so...

Just expect to wait ALOT longer then they quoted you!

If it takes them 5 months and making it a public thing at the Sportsman show for them to get off their a** to give the rifle to the store which miraculously came in a week after the show when it was promised in 3 to 5 weeks, I doubt something like that will make it out the door any quicker!
