LMT Mk18 Clone

is there anything worth looking at in the 1k range? The leupold is about $1400 right? Same with Nightforce?

I have a Mark4 3/9MRT mildot lite reticle for sale here for $1000

The NF 1-4 is a good choice -- but hold out for a bit -- the are releasing all their civie/LE scopes with the same zero stop and illumination as their .mil sale scopes.

TR-21 Accupoint would be a good choice as well.

I dont like the Leupolds - the 1.5-5 is an okay scope -- but for <100m stuff I dont think its a good idea. The 2.5-8 is okay -- but need to be twinned with a DR Optic - okay as a DMR optic.

I have no first hand experience with the IOR.

I've been told that the IOR is heavy. I like Leupold stuff, for the range and not if your going to use it for work?, I think that the quality is good for the money IMO.

Really?
Care to offer your opinion on why?

My rational is other than some added weight from the S&B I dont have any issues.
Aimpoint fast at 1.1 - but with magnification for tgt detection, descrimination and engagement.

yeah just looking for alittle magnification for shots in the 75-150 yard range or maybe 200 at tops. I am not confident in making good shots at the long range with just my aimpoint.

I meant apart from the S+B and other variable magnification optics.. I guess one could also argue that ACOG's with BAC could also serve a short barrel well. Hey, but wait, this was supposed to be a Mk 18 clone! Check-mate! :D

I'm just envious.

Okay - I misunderstood your comments
Some guys with Mk18's I know use S&B's, more than a few are using TA31DOC's etc
The NAVSOF guys doing VBSS stuff dont really need to worry about issues at range - so the majority of those guns have Aimpoint.

Honestly if I had more uppers around the S&B would not be on the 10.5 - but I've donated 3 uppers to the war on terror - and they dont come back -- and I lent another upper to a buddy in 1VP to shoot while I was in Iraq.
So this is about my only AR (well many lower - but only two uppers here).

I can't visualize anything you guys are talking about. AR and Elcan is about it. I am looking forward to using a C7 with an Elcan on BMQ shortly. But short cannot describe the C7 so whoever uses the shorties in Afghanistan or Iraq should consider themselves lucky (though I'd take a G3 or MG3 over anything else).

Got my KAC RAS and the lower for this one in today :D

MIAD and Eotech are enroute...

Sweet -- I drilled out the front sling swivel today off my upper today (I despise them)

XRC -- have you thought of replacing the LARGE thumb nut on the LMT sight with a lower profile nut? -- makes it more awkward to remove (nned pliers) - but it makes it a lot easier to work the cocking handle.
Sweet build though...

I'm not a huge fan of the swivel myself, I just don't want to bring powertools near an unfired $1K+ upper quite yet.

Where would one find a lower profile nut? Or is it just a hardware store thing? I still charge ARs with one finger on each side of the handle, so it hasn't been an issue yet.

yeah would like something in the 1-4 range at most.

I have the Leupold MK4 1.5 X 5 MRT with Illum. SPR reticle currently residing on my Sig Green Classic for Service Rifle Competitions. It will flip between the Sig and my 10.5" LMT upper.

So far I like it. No issues as of yet.

I would like to see it at zero magnifaction and up to 5X or 6X instead of starting at 1.5X.

if you want to see pics of it on a shorty AR, I can take some for you.

SKBY.

yeah some pics would be nice thanks. The other option I was considering was a 1.5x ACOG? anybody have any opinions on this model?
