I'm not really much of a "precision shooter" any more, as my eyes simply won't do the necessary work after double cataract surgery. That said, I'm a sucker for accurate rifles and right or wrong, I tend to put my faith in what professional military forces are using at any given time. I've long known that .308/7.62mm ARs are inherently accurate, starting with my own minty Artillerie Inrichtingen AR-10 that the government of Canada saw fit to prohibit. Next up was an Armalite AR10 with a 16" barrel that performed much better than my expectations. So when it came time to decide on a factory platform for accuracy, I looked into the various AR platforms. One name stood out from the crowd these days, and Lewis Machine and Tool became a serious contender with their win for the British and NZ DMR programs. Knights also makes a top-tier sniper/DMR, however the base rifle at $6K was just a bit too rich for my blood. The LMT MWS at $4K was a bit more reasonable.....
I added a Vortex 1-6X Razor HD II DMR scope, Geiselle trigger, 20" Stainless 1/11.5" Match barrel, Atlas Bipod and Law Tactical AR-folding stock mechanism to bring the rifle up to my liking. Early on with the 16" Chrome-lined barrel, I was able to print consistent MOA 5-round groups at 100 yds. I don't know how much better the SS Match barrel will perform, as I just received it from Questar and have yet to hit the range. Next Spring will tell the tale of the new barrel..... Meanwhile, here are some pics of the rig:
Enjoy!
