Loaded & closed on the Trap field

Come on claybuster how long have you been at this game. You don't have to disrupt the harmony of a shoot to get into someones head. Also when did that become not part of any sport trap included. As a kid I watched a nova scotia hall of fame trap shooter who competed all over the world shoot weekly and he was one of the best shooters in the game at that time and also one of the best for intentionally getting into his competitions head and he was never ejected.
I don't care what sport you participate in that is always part of the game and always will be.
There is a huge difference between being a #### and fair competition. I have never been disqualified so I must not be a #### just competitive nor do I play games on the firing line.I have you beat before we get there. I guess when two boxers meet in the center of the ring and stare each other down they are just trying to feel the love. I am talking competition here not a weekend local shoot with the boys. take care
I've been at it long enough to know how to deal with the weaklings who are so lacking in confidence that they have to "game" other competitors. It's easier for me to ignore them than to make an issue about them with the shoot operators. Once you do that then they really have gotten to you. Just because someone wasn't disqualified doesn't mean they weren't acting like a ####.

Being at it a long time is one thing, being at it strictly to win competitions is totally different. What you are saying would be fine if the true weaklings were the issue but normally they are not it is the very best shooters that get into your head during a competition. How do you call a squad that will run 395-400 out of 400 birds weaklings. No they are the best of the best and earned their tail feathers so are as pumped as hell to win again. Even if you went and complained to the operators the guy is usually the local club champ so you think they are going to give a hoot.
How do you ignore them if you are trying to win a event. Ok maybe not today since everything can be bought off e-bay but there was a time when a patch or crest on a vest would mean something. Why do you think the best shooters were plastered with them, not because they won them but to intimidate guys during future shoots. When we went to an event that was the 1st thing we did was see who was where and what awards etc they were displaying. That is getting into ones head
I know if I am next to a guy with an earned 200 straight patch on his arm I am going to push down harder on the stock.
I don't know maybe it has all changed in the past 20 years as far as competition and I maybe 100% wrong. For me it became too stressful with no fun which was the sole reason I started to shoot so I got out. When you got upset not because you broke the bird but broke it 2 feet from where you thought it sahould be broke time to give it up.It is all fun now that is for sure. How can you take a fool shooting a 28ga in trap seriously. But it will always be action open until it is my turn. Take care and as always I respect your comments also.

I've have the chance to shoot with some top ranked shooters both in North America and the UK. Not one played silly littles games and I learned a lot from them. I don't care what badges, patches, tattoos or other bragging stuff some other guys has. When I'm serious it's about me and the target. Nothing else comes into play. When I'm in that place nothing gets into my head and certainly not some little pissant who wants to play games.

That is great claybuster you can get into that zone. It is critical to win as you know. Like I said things change as the years pass and perhaps those head games no longer exist. It was a big part of the game at one time and nice to hear it no longer is.
These top rank shooters did you just shoot with them or line up in competition with them, since the guys I went against would not show anyone nipping at their title anything, again nice to hear that has changed.
Ok. Honest answer time. After all the conversation we have had on this if you and I were lining up tonite for the club house title and 500.00 would you try a bit harder to kick my ass than you did a month ago. take care :)

I think there is as much "gaming" going on as there ever ways. I just ignore it.

As for the honest answer I would try not to try a bit harder. If I try harder I start measuring targets, being too cautious which leads to disastrous results. Doesn't matter if it's a ranked shooter or just another guy at the club. It's about me and the target. Anything else just gets in the way.

Skeet is dead? News to me.....

In the province of Alberta I would sure say it is. Can’t find any numbers for how many shooters were at the provincial champion ships in Alberta but if there was 20 shooters would surprise the heck out of me. My comment was to general and I apologize I won’t take anything away from skeet shooters they have my respect. Hopefully were your from there is a large skeet shooting base but if you compare numbers in Alberta the sport is pretty much toast in comparison to trap and sporting clay. I was not around in the hay day of skeet in Alberta most skeet shooters at are club are out having fun and not to interested in competing and seam to use it more for practice for sporting clay and having fun in a relaxed environment I say go for it. Skeet fields are always full at my club buy the way

Wow I never realized skeet shooters were like a bunch of high school girls, caddy and rude. Welcome jimmy 808.
P.S. Trap is way coooooler ;)
PPS if you have to mess with your opponents you are A- A #### and B-Rude

Skeet has not cornered the market on jerks. There are just as many in the other disciplines. Thankfully in all of the games, the jerks are only a tiny minority.

I always close mine when it is my turn to fire. I make it part of my fundamentals and routine. If the next shooter has to wait the extra 5 seconds it takes me to close and mount my gun too freakin bad. Safety comes first! Plain and Simple!! I have seen too many shooters with guns loaded before their turn suddenly have an accidental discharge while awaiting their turns. I have stood on a line too many times and watched near horrors occur. One day I watched as a shooter closed her Model 12 while her finger was on the trigger and blew a smoking hole in the ground not 3" in front of her toes. She had just finished shooting her target, it was nowhere near her turn again. Another time at Hamilton Gun Club I had an older gentleman squeeze off a round from station 5 while the shooter on station 2 was shooting, he couldnt 'feel" his trigger so gave it a little more pressure and blammo!! I walked off the line at Toronto International one morning when people in the gallery behind were swinging guns around checking them out and pointing them at guys on the firing line. When we brought this to the attention of the guy in charge that day he told us he only had two eyes and couldnt watch everyone as he was working alone. Three weeks later the club was in the news with an accidental discharge that left someone hurt. I wont be going back there ever again. At our club we all make it a point of safety first and if you do something we deem unsafe and you are asked to correct it and dont then you are asked to not return.

I'm brand new to the shooting sports...but safety first only makes sense. IMHO it trumps all other aspects of the sport.

I shoot anywhere form 200 to 500 birds a week, but use skeet and to a lesser degree, trap, for nothing more than personal enjoyment while at the same time keeping sharp for fall birds sure is fun, though!:p

I had an interesting conversation one day while placing a target order with Rick Lawry( Lawry Targets). Those of you who know Rick know he is an avid skeet shooter. During our conversation the subject of the different games came up and Rick himself told me if he was setting up a new club as we were doing at the time(year 2000) he said based on his target and machine sales he woulkd build a club with Trap in mind first, then Sporting Clays and lastly Skeet based on shooter numbers and target sales. I would say in my 30+ years of target shooting and club participation at the two clubs I have belonged to that the majority of new shooters will try trap before skeet and those that return again I would say 80% never try the skeet field and stay with the trap game. I think it is just an intimidation/confidence thing. Persoanlly I shoot it all and love it all, I always claimed skeet was more fun than trap and still do but trap is "The Game" if you want to shoot competitvely IMO. Sporting is fun too and although I enjoy it I prefer to shoot it only occasionally. The reason for that is time factor. I like to be able to go out and pop 100 targets early in the morning and get out by noon to go fishing or shooting crows in the afternoon.:)
