Well...I'm stoked! I finally got to load a few actual rounds today in 9mm Luger. This is the very first time that I have ever loaded a centerfire cartridge of any caliber! That's right, I'm a total NOOB!! Bare with me...
As some of you may already know, I was unable to locate small pistol primers anywhere...As it turns out, there are some very good sponsors here at CGN and I managed to find what I need in the way of components after all. I don't have the bullets on hand yet that I intend to load with BUT I do have a box of 100 Hornady HP/XTP 124gr. from a previous purchase, so I loaded with that for now.
I loaded the following :
5 rounds
Brass : Remington (new)
Primer : Federal small pistol
Powder : Hodgdon HP-38 (4.2gr)
Bullet : Hornady 124gr. (.355" dia) HP/XTP
OAL : 1.100"
5 rounds
Brass : Remington (new)
Primer : Federal small pistol
Powder : Hodgdon HP-38 (4.3gr)
Bullet : Hornady 124gr. (.355" dia) HP/XTP
OAL : 1.100"
5 rounds
Brass : Remington (new)
Primer : Federal small pistol
Powder : Hodgdon HP-38 (4.4gr)
Bullet : Hornady 124gr. (.355" dia) HP/XTP
OAL : 1.100"
The only thing that will change in regards to components in the near future is that I will be swapping the Hornady 9mm 124gr. (.355") HP/XTP bullets for Aim Projectiles 9mm 124gr (.356") RN CMJ bullets.
So....Being a loading virgin and even though I've gone through all of this before, I would appreciate YOUR input in regards to my load recipes above. I can't get to the range for a day or two but I intend to test these 15 rounds A.S.A.P. in my Norinco M213 (unless somebody here tells me that they are dangerous loads). I had asked this question one time before and got quite a few mixed signals. Some said that the loads were too hot and others said that they were just fine...None of my reloading manuals show load data for the Hornady bullet that I have on hand and I do not have access to reloading software (yet). Perhaps I am simply being overally cautious...This is all so new to me. Having said that, I am simply LOVING this new hobby! I'm excited, can you tell?
In a week I will (if I don't already) have the following on hand to load with :
- 400 Remington unprimed 9mm Luger brass
- 2000 Federal small pistol primers
- 1000 Remington small pistol primers
- 2lbs Hodgdon HP-38 powder
- 1lb Bullseye powder
- 75 Hornady 9mm 124gr. HP/XTP bullets
- 1000 Aim Projectiles 9mm 124gr. RN CMJ bullets
Any and all 9mm Luger load data is appreciated (especially if it uses the materials I have on hand).
Feel free to share you recipes...
Now I do have a few questions...They are as follow :
Lastly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the people here that were able to provide the components that I had such a difficult time finding. Furthermore, in both cases the transactions were done via email and I received very prompt replies, excellent prices, honest and straight forward information and sound advice! Thank you!

Now I do have a few questions...They are as follow :
- Are load recipes generally refered to as load data (such a stupid question)?
- Does anyone see anything dangerous in my load recipes above?
- Is it generally mandatory to tumble used brass before reloading with it?
