Is it possible to load an SKS to maximum legal capacity of 5 +1 rounds?

Or does the fixed magazine set-up make this impossible?

I'm thinking the bolt would have to be some nasty dirty to clog up the firing pin enough to cause a slam fire.

nope, on soft primers even a light nick can cause them to go off

My Garand bolt was very clean and shooting federal 30-06 was pretty scary "winchester was fine though"

Load 5 in your magazine.

Then put a round in the chamber and press the 5 rounds in the magazine down with your thumb while you pull the bolt back, releasing it from the bolt stop mechanism.

Hold the 5 rounds down until the bolt clears them, then let the carrier go.

You are now 5+1 in your SKS.

Thanks. That's basically how I envisioned it.
Just wondering if there's some reason why it wouldn't work.

Do you get a lot of pinched fingers?

Ride the bolt till it has gone past the rim of the top cartridge, remove digit pushing down on rounds in the magazine, let the bolt go, no pinched fingers.

geez u guys, our friend here asked if its possible to have a 5+1 in an sks and all u wanna talk about it slamfires

f:P:

Its because dropping a SKS bolt on a chambered round, could cause a slam fires with some ammo

Just a friendly warning thats all :)

Not a problem if the user has the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. The marginal possibility of a slam fire wouldn't (doesn't) prevent me from doing this all the time....
