Can anyone offer any insight to loading lead/cast bullets for use in a Semi-automatic? (AR platform and M14). I found some 30cal 165gr cast bullets(w/ gas check) that I'd like to use for plinking.
I built a dummy round to see if they would feed, and seems they will. Being a round nose, its pretty visible the lead that is getting sheered off by the feed ramps. But several cycles (hitting the bolt catch) with both rifles, and not a hiccup.
My other concern is velocity, from what I gather, trying to shoot lead bullets at normal (2500fps+) .308 velocities might not end so well. So with that being said, does anyone have any recommendations for a powder and charge that would produce sufficiency low velocities as to be safe, but that use enough powder to generate the gas volume to cycle a semi-automatic action?
From reading the "45-70 Reduced" thread, seem Unique might be an option.
