Lockhart Tactical Raven Platinum Edition, .223 Wylde

Can you install a ejection port cover on the current gen 2 uppers?

Yes, you can. I just ordered this Upper Receiver and assembled an alternative Raven configuration with a 10" .300 Blackout Barrel....

Can some explain to me on Lockhart website when ordering a Raven what all the Mloc picccany options are?

I’m on a budget and trying to make as cheap as possible but wondering is that the handgaurd ? Or is it just piccany rails included to add onto the handrail

Hey
I’ve got a gen 3 upper ordered and just picked up a stripped lower off the EE and was planning on building a 6.5 creedmoor as I’ve already got the .556.
I have an extra trigger group, buffer tube, stock.
Would any lower /upper parts kit work? Do the parts need to be AR10 specific?

I know I need the .308 magwell, but not sure what else to get.
Been searching but can’t find everything at one location.

Thanks

Gen 3 upper is mid length so short action specific. There is no .308 magwell or upper available as of yet.
I thought it said al you would need is the bigger magwel as the current upper is about an half inch longer than a standard AR15 upper?

Most people in the bolt action world refer to 308 as short action cartridge so there can be some confusion there.

I don't think a 308 class cartridge will fit thru the ejection port. Bolt head and barrel extension size are likely to be problems also.

I suppose mini action would be more accurate. .308 might fit through the ejection port but a longer magwell will require a longer upper receiver.

How much longer is the ar10 compared to ar15 ?

The raven is already about 1/2 + inch longer than a standard ar15

The magwell on a 308 is .6” longer than a 556 magwell. It’s also a bit wider. A 6.5 Creedmoor barrel will not fit up to the gen 3 upper. You’d be better of building a 6.5 Grendel if you want to use the gen 3 upper

So what’s the point of having interchangeable magwels on this platform? I guess it’s 6.5 Grendel then.

The interchangable Mag Well allows for calibre change kits which use a replacement Upper Receiver Group (including BCG, Bolt and Upper Charging Handle, Magazine Well and Magazine to switch the platform's chambering from 5.56x45mm to 7.62x51mm for example. This system allows re-use of the Lower Receiver with the Trigger Pack and possibly the Buffer Assembly (if cross-caliber compatable).

Most folks (myself included) will probably just purchase a complete rifle in a "small caliber" such as 5.56mm and/or .300 Blk and another complete rifle in a "large caliber" such as 7.62x51mm or 6.5mm Creedmoor. But for those on a budget or those enamoured with the quick caliber-change capabliity of the system, the re-use of major Lower Receiver components could be a welcome feature.

The switch-calibre AR is an interesting concept that has been done before with limited commercial success. We shall see if it "takes and holds" this time around.....

I have a complete .556 already plus a stripped set less the mag well and was wanting to build something different .
Still a bit confused on what to build.
Maybe I’ll just stick with the Grendel

I built a 6.5 Grendel and it’s a fairly capable round, although I haven’t shot it much. Plus it feeds out of 7.62x39 pistol mags nicely which is a bonus

6.5 Grendel may be your best option if you intend to remain NR with an 18.5" (Minimum) Barrel length. Of course there are other options including the .224 Valkyrie or perhaps there is even some other more trendy flavour of the caliber day. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a great deal about the alternative AR chamberings that conform to the STANAG Magazine envelope, aside from .300 Blk. I built up a spare upper in .300 Blk (see above), but it pretty much requires a Restricted classification to have a an appropriate 9" or 10" Barrel. Not sure I want to go that route, as much as I love the .300 Blk for specific applications. There's definitely something to be said for launching supersonic 150gr .30-cal pills downrange out of a rebarreled AR or facsimile thereof! They smack the steel with so much more authority than 5.56mm bullets. Still my upper sits unused as I do not (yet) wish to register my Raven. Kind of defeats the purpose, no? Soooo, I too am in the research stage of sourcing an alternative AR Barrel Chambering. Something that will benefit from the 18.5" Barrel length in terms of extended effective range and/or improved accuracy.

Depends on what your doing with it, I don’t see a problem if your using it for range stuff, more of a hassle calling it in for me though.
I like the 6.5 Grendel as it qualifies for big game hunting, so I can legally carry it in the outback…
