Long distance precision math

thats a loaded question. are you talking for bullet drop, wind drift or what? there is alot of variables in long range to accound for, are you asking about all of them or somthing specific u want to know?

id look for a free ballistics calulator it will make life much easier then trying to figure every thing out by hand

I'm talking about all the math required to make a shot at any time.

Sure meters to yards and vise versa is important but that's pretty straight forward.

I'm talking formulas like the Pythagorean theorem (A2 + B2 = C2)

oh your talking SWAG math thats called get a range book log all your shots called and landed, know everything about your AO and I mean everything plug it into a ballistic computer and fire a shot

then join the WTFDTSG club

lol all the math in the world won't fix the dumbass fly that bites you the second you touch off the round or the BP that dropped in the 1 minute whie you ran the numbers and dialed your dope

that would go good too! lol

I think the key for shooting is a log book! take today my rifle was zeroed at 100meters at -15 today at plus 12 I was 2moa higher at the same range now I add that into my logbook (the 260 is new to me so I am learning it now)

2 MOA for 27* difference? Wow, that seems excessive - nothing else changed?

no....same load and lot(oh I will have to test my scope mount the scope was taken of and remounted QD mount)to rule that out

Yeah, that Pathetic Theorum you asking about is used when I shoot at angle up, or angle down. It's all about the high molecular weight of the polynuclear aromatic compounds....

No wait...... it's about right triangles. Regardless of the angle think shoot low.
The Hypoteneuse is always gonna be longer than the straight line.

for example: if I shoot at 400 yds and at an angle of 20 down from parallel I would adjust for a delta drop of about 3"(19" vs 21") at 400 yds and 20 deg down angle.

PS is that what you are refering to?

I thought if you were shooting down you were to shoot a bit low and if you were shooting up you had to shoot high.

That's part of it. I can probably just put together a list of formulas that I know of and then have you guys check it over.

Mchaley, pick up a copy of Brian Litz's book, "Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting, now the second edition is out. It even comes with a ballistics program, so its win, win. Click on Mystic's thingy at the top of the page, I think he carries them.

Nope its the angle of the dangle:D
Remember the Hypoteneuse? its(line of sight) ALWAYS longer than the triangle base. Trajectory, the bullet's flight path, depends on the horizontal (level) range to the target, not the line of sight range up or down hill.

Remember I said think "shoot low". Either uphill or down hill no matter. The bullet travels shorter distance than LOS or a laser rangefinder indication(unless it is a compensated for angle type) when at up angle or down angle.

You obviously need to shoot more from a chopper or get a better spotter:stirthepot2:

regards

PS you realize Im just picking right?
