Long range shooting on Crown land in Ontario

I live in minden and ride this section of power lines weekly in the winter. There are countless places along this stretch that would be very "long range friendly". Ive ridden the entire section from midnen to lake st.peter by ATV as well and many sections arent exactly "road vehicle accessible". An ATV would be fine, but id never take my truck down there.

Ive been trying to find a place around the minden area that could be stretched out to say 5 or 600 meters and so far have come up with nothing. My own private range is on a hydro line but i own the property and can only get 250 meters out of it. On the other hand, im only 3 minutes from Milcun so if i do want to go out farther I can just go there.
 
Crashman, a local resident and I did some recon at the Cloyne Hydro Line today. We found the ideal spot which offers over a mile of shooting. Its' about 6-7 Kms from Hwy#41. Plenty of rocks to target.
I took along my Rem 700 in 7.62x39 just to see how far some Chinese surplus would go. Zeroed in a 300 meters and found that rock impacts would still have enough energy to kill any deer or moose at that range. Next attempt was 600 meters. After dialing in 10-12 minutes of wind I was able to make consistent centered hits on a boulder, but the impact splash was mild. I don't believe there was enough energy left for deer sized animals.
I decided not to attempt 1000yds as the winds were too much today to even think of trying to spot bullet hits.

That looks perfect for a long range target shooting spot.

Yes quads only at this point. A truck set up for off road would be fine as the road in is solid with a hard bottom, there are just several areas where the road is under 18-24" of water. On my quad, the water level was well above the floor boards and probably half way up the motor, but again the road has a good bottom so as long as you keep moving it is fine.

As far as shooting opportunities go, you have to travel about 7 kms as the crow flies west of hwy 41. We found one spot (the picture in the above post) where we estimated you could easily shoot a mile and beyond if you have the gear to do it. It could be a great day to get in there and set up and do some shooting, you will be at the mercy of the wind though as the spot to shoot from is on one of the highest points in the area and when we were there yesterday there was a ton of wind.
