Long term metal protection experiment follow up

I have Eezox, Froglube, & some Fluid Film (I think), and can get them to you in Calgary if you still need them. Shoot me a PM if you want.

Sounds good, mark them for identification so they get back to you and you drop them off at Ammosupply.ca by the end of September.

Fluid film would slaughter them all

Not necessarily if you conclude the Shootersforum tests (made available in this thread on post # ) are accurate.

Speaking of the ShootersForum tests:

Good find. The chart in that study is a little bit misleading, it ranks hornady one shot as good as the best, clearly the rusted metal in board 2 says otherwise.

Actually the author states in post #6 (just above panel #2, 48Hr. test pic.'s) that the One Shot (Hornady) was contaminated (was not fully treated correctly) and that is why the corrosion shows on the one side only.

Regardless of what product is best thanks must go out to DirtyBarry for making this effort to find the truth of what will offer all us shooters the best chance of keeping our firearms in their best condition over the long term...

Cheers D

^ (unable to edit my post) So that post where the other Shootersforum test is made available is post #93, thankfully offered up by ChargerGuy.

Looking forward to your future test results DirtyBarry, thanks again for all your efforts...

Check out the test in this thread on post #93, as Fluid Film does not appear to be the all conquering cure for corrosion; as it fails to beat several other products during these particular test anyways.

Saying that, I for one do look forward to Fluid Film's performance in DirtyBarry's future tests though since it is known to be a very good product.

Cheers D

Good eye! If I come across some one shot I'll pick some up. I have yet to find that specific WD-40 Specialist anywhere in Canada. It's all froglube for me now. I used to spray metal car parts with regular WD-40 before I put them in storage. I was quite unpleasantly surprised to see everything rust up so quick.

Thanks, that makes a big difference to know.

The WD-40 specialist 'long term corrosion inhibitor' did amazingly well on both boards as well.

It's strange, I don't see this product at Can Tire or any other usual places either. Only this website http://www.traverscanada.com/wd-40-...mfr-300035-container-size-65-oz/p/81-006-209/

Really hoping that there ends up being a variety of commonly available products that work with realistic real world results that could be reasonably expected by anyone without access to a full on laboratory.
What has surprised me so far is how poorly some of the highly touted have performed. But that's the point of this whole quasi-controlled testing.

Last year I discovered the shooters forum tests thanks to BCsteve on these forums.

Since seeing the results of the extensive shooters forum tests I have switched to hornady 1 shot. Frog lube does great in a lot of tests but I like that 1 shot is aerosol and easy to apply. The type of wd 40 listed in their tests seems impossible to find and I have searched in the States and Canada for it.

So far the Hornady 1 shot has given me no reason to complain or switch to another product. 1 shot is not corrosive to my synthetic stocks and has worked better then expected to date. I get CLP and other products free at work but the 1 shot has proven to be super user friendly and weather resistant. Spending the bit of $ for the Hornaday 1 shot is worth it in my opinion and a can lasts a long time

Might be a longshot but do you have any seal 1 clp plus?

Supposed to be similar to frog lube but "new and improved". If I were closer I'd definitely donate some to see how it holds up.

I have some Seal1 CLP here as well. Time permitting, I will try and get some down to Kate at Ammo Supply next week. Man, I think I've tried just about every "snake oil" on the market at one time or another...

Awesome thanks!! Will be interesting to see how it compares to frog lube since they are supposed to be very similar.
