The long lasting cold snap broke in the past couple days... today was +4C and sunny... so my son and I grabbed a few guns and boxes of ammo and headed to the skeet range... it hasn't been plowed all winter... we had to slog through two feet of wet snow from the main road to the club... this old guy was huffing and puffing pretty good. After the long winter and a serious case of cabin fever it felt great to be in the sun and smelling gun powder again. I gave a new Citori Lightning 20 gauge a good work out, and found it fit me nicely, and powdered it's share of clays... Also determined that the ROCK HARD pad on my Citori 12 gauge, is way too uncomfortable... so that will be changed asap... the gun weighs as much as a Volkswagen, so recoil is not the issue... It was after shooting a few stations with my son's 692, and feeling the difference... significant.

Makes me start "chomping at the bit" for turkey season...

Any one else getting out after the long winter? What are your local weather conditions like?

We didn't stop at all during the winter at the Moncton Gun Club, we had a few weekends where the storm would keep us off the fields, but we stayed cleaned out and for the most part operating. Last weekend was a beautiful for busting clays, one member even shot his first 25, as tradition, he now has a hat full of #9 holes.

It's been winter here since halloween. It's a long drive in along a road /dyke across a wetland into the local club. The road is rough at the best of times and not always passable in winter. So, yeah, it's been a very long winter. With the spring thaw, (nowhere in sight) the road can take on a First World War appearance, so it may be a while yet.

im glad we have a huge snow blower. The range is kept clear year round. Except trap. no one seems to shoot trap in the winter, even though the machine works in all weather and is in a hut. I also drive my truck there when i go shooting and if there has been a recent snow fall, i will bring the blade too; just in case.

Stop skeet shooting in the winter? You call yourself Canadian:redface: Man the snow blowers and shovels! We only changed one day this year due to a huge winter storm that hit on our skeet day.
Shot 5 stand a couple of times this year in a blizzard. If you are down in SW Ontario the Rondeau Rod and Gun Club shoot skeet every Sunday and Skeet and 5 Stand on the first Sunday of every month. Members $4 a round, non-members $5 a round.

...down in SW Ontario the Rondeau Rod and Gun Club...

That is why... try that in Northern Ontario... different ball game up here... I was thrilled to get out in March... it is often April before we get rolling...

WE have virtually no snow left at all and had very little all winter but the club closes in winter. Exec says it opens when it "warms up". WTH does that mean in this part of the country?July? ;) From what I can tell since moving here there are only two seasons, winter and growing. :p

My son goes down for many shoots at Cambridge/Galt... I think I will go down with him a couple times this year... I am not competitive, just a casual, fun shooter... can't hurt to get in a little practice for upland/waterfowl...

I didn't get a lot of shooting in this winter. Between 4 weeks away on business and a damn cold winter I made it out only twice in all of January and February. Sunday looks to be around 5C with 40 per cent change of showers. :(
