I need advice from some of you walking Enfield encyclopedias.

A longtime family friend has shown me a Longbranch Enfield in excellent condition that he hasn't been using in ages. It has a Parker-Hale rear peep sight with micro adjustments, a removable cubic metal protector over the front sight and for some unknown reason it is chambered in .308 but the barrel matches the rest of the rifle. It has the full-length original wood and all numbers are matching.

Have you heard of this model before and if so, why is it in .308 ? And if I wanted to make him an offer, what price range should I expect to pay for this rifle ?

You have a Long Branch DCRA conversion rifle in 7.62 Nato. I have one as do many others on here. They are a very desirable rifle. Price range for a matching mint specimen- $650-$1100. Depends on how lucky you are that day.

me 3, :) but mine is a club gun builtup on a savage No4 Mk1/3 Faz FTR

the rear site is going for about $150 - $200

those rifles were set up for the Dominion oc Canada Rifle Association and were used in shooting competitions by the military as well as civilain shooters belonging to the club.

over the years things changed and the DCRA don't have to use military rifles anymore so they shoot other custom target rifles.

Basically what you have there is a No4 enfield set up as a long range target rifle in .308

nice

If he offers to sell - buy it. The package is a desireable Canadian sporting firearm modified with great attention to detail to fire consistent bullseyes with ordinary combat ammunition. They aren't making any more and the internet has proven that demand will always outstrip supply.

"...why was this conversion done..." In the mid-50's, when the CF went to the C1, the DCRA, who have always gotten an ammo allotment from the CF, wanted to use the new ammo. There were no 7.62/.308 target rifles, so they converted(new barrel, modified the bolt head/extractor and mag) a bunch of No. 4's to 7.62NATO and used them for target shooting.

Long Branch 1950, Alf J Parker sight mod T Z 7/47,

Note the two round black plugs on rear of stock (both sides) under the rear sight...anyone can explain?

J

My DCRA also has those plugs. They are part of the action bedding process to make the rifle more accurate. I believe those dowels help keep the action centred in the stock more solidly and repeatably for shot to shot consistency.

You have a parkerized 1950 LB.

Target rifle

I have a 1945 Long Branch #4 Mk1* with a Parker-Hale target (peep) sight in .303. I bought it from a fellow who desperately needed cash at the time he sold it to me and now I am selling it back to him - @#$% - because we're friends and he has the cash he needs to buy it back. He told me that this rifle is actually worth around $1000 and I have no reason to doubt him. I also know from shooting this rifle that it is very accurate. If your friend wants to sell his rifle, I say buy it. If you decide you no longer want it, there will be plenty of people on this website who will be interested in buying it from you.
