Look what I imported! M&P9 Compact!

Thanks to Joel @ Borderview export firearms services in Seattle, my first sucessful and relatively painless import.

This is the FIRST RESTRICTED M&P Compact 9mm in the country.

How do I know? I got the FRT for it created from the CFC.

M&P Compact 9mm with Storm Lake 4.2" (109mm) threaded barrel and 2 x 10-round 9mm magazines with finger grooves.

You are my hero! People like you make our sport interesting. Technically your the forefather of the M&P9C in Canada. Makes you a legend! ;)

I know - I have the full-sized and I really like it.

I really wanted to get the smaller one to add to the collection.

Edit: The main expense was that that I had to get the aftermarket barrel for it, which added 50% to the cost - I managed to spread out the import fee costs with the other ones I brought in.

THE OTHER ONES!?!?

I found the M&P9 was just a touch too large for my hands... And I was really fond of the ergonomics of the G23...

My only question is why install a thread-protector, instead of a flash suppressor?

I wish this is how the Glock 19s were, a threaded barrel with a thread protector on it. I think it would look way better than that little black dink sticking out.

back on topic cool gun!

I'm surprised that no one is selling them in Canada considering the popularity of the full size models. Nice looking gun but I don't think I would've spent that much on it.

My only question is why install a thread-protector, instead of a flash suppressor?
probably because flash suppressor would take the gun even longer and kinda pointless on a compact handgun.

You must have small hands... I don't understand the attraction to a "compact pistol" when the ergonomics of a full size pistol is so much better (for med-lg hands).

.

I totally agree

There is this fascination of getting pistols that we arent allowed to have in Canada. Putting a silly looking extended barrel on it defeats the purpose IMO because it's still not the original gun.

And you did this because your regular M&P was too bulky for CCW? :p

Sold my G26 and all other minis after the novelty wore off. There is zero advantage outside of carrying it around...

Regardless, congrats on the new addition!! :D

Cost

$500 for the gun
$250 for the barrel
$249 + 5% for the import fee (on the gun alone)
$30 each for the 10 round mags
12% HST at the border on the gun and mags

So approximately $1,200 for the one - I paid slightly less because I brought in more than one of these.

Process - from beginning to end, approximately three months - we had some hiccups along the way

- Emailed Joel @ Borderview of what I wanted
- Joel sent me email confirming that 'yes' it was possible and 'yes' they were available
- Paid for the guns and export process via US money order
- Applied for an international import certificate (IIC) from DFAIT
- Joel did his magic with Dept of State in regards to export permits
- Called/emailed with the RCMP firearms tech - got the FRT created in about 2 weeks
- Registered the firearms with the CFC and got the certs from CFC
- Waited
- Waited some more
- Waited a little longer
- Received approval from Dept of State
- Went to Dave's Sports in Lynden, WA - did the barrel swap in the shop
- Went back to the border with IIC, CFC reg certs, Borderview invoice, and ATT
- Joel's partner delivered the guns to Abbotsford crossing, he filed his paperwork with the CBSA guy
- CBSA opened all the guns, inspected them, checked my ATT
- Checked my invoice, paid my taxes
- Drove home with my new guns

Damn, you must have really, really wanted that gun.

No way would I do any of that. :yingyang:
