So here I am in Canberra (really back in July 2011) and my mates shot this 'roo' or buck on their buddy's farm! We figured it was over 100kg.

These guys can sure put a dent in your truck on the highway!

I wanna head back there again! Yeeha!

Cheers mates!

The government will issue let lie tags. You shoot it, tag it and "let lie" it is actually an offence to move it or process it. Not all tags are this way though. I was told it very depndant on population.

Looka like somebody is happy. Now you know why those big grill guards on semi trucks are called Roo Bars. Ya it would be interesting to try eating some meat.

I'm told that farmers are allowed 200 'roos' every year.

And we all know that farmers cannot count... :nest:

That's the local North Queensland joke, before anybody flames me! :D

I've heard a lot of them provide meat for pet food in Australia, but I've never been there to verify it. When I lived in the U.K. in the 1980s and '90s kangaroo leather became known as excellent for motorcycle clothing - tougher but more comfortable than the best cowhide.

They use kangaroo hide to make stock whips, it is a very tough and strong leather.I have a whip here made out of roo leather ,it is at least 25 yrs old and it was cracked 1000's of times till a small strand broke near the cracking end.Sent it to a whip make living here in Sask, who is from Auzzyland and he repaired it for me, 1000's more cracks left in it yet !!

There is pretty specific rules for legal Roo permits.

If a farmers land is crawling in roos he can apply for a tag to cull them out, Pro Roo shooters are still out there, although the $ isnt too #### hot..

head shots and a .223 min is regs.

Shooting Roos without permit carrys big penalties incl bigish prices per roo found shot dead.

Why the let lie rule? Do they carry a disease or parasites of some sort? I can recall seeing photos of professional hunters shooting roos for meat and hides, 15 or 20 years ago

cheers mooncoon
