Look Whats Coming From NEA, 9mm NEA102 Variant

Is it possible they are using the Uzi pattern mags, but with the mag catch in another area to accommodate the mag release, and possibly making it a "new" mag

Way back years ago when the Thureons were first being discussed on here and not in Canada quite at the time, the mag subject was discussed a bit, and consensus was that simply converting an existing Uzi mag to work in a gun isn't enough to make it a different mag in the eyes of the RCMP. They were still going to consider it an Uzi mag limited to 5 rounds. I think the only possible way for it to be a "new" mag design would be if they have new mag bodies manufactured that may be similar in dimensions to the Uzi mag (length, depth, width), but with none of the cuts to make it fit the Uzi mag catch, but instead only the ones for the new gun. That way, an Uzi mag could still fit the gun if modified (for the foreign market guys), but the new mags wouldn't technically be "Uzi" mags in Canada? Guess we won't know until they tell us, but maybe that's what they're planning?

Then create a pistol, and design a mag that fits it, darn it. If it happens to be of a form factors that ends up similar to other guns that's not the design intent.

I don't think the pistol mag angle will work anymore.

They now have the "dual use" rule that was first tested out on the AIA bolt action mags then once again with Beowulf mags.

Uh no it should be fine, as long as it's a magazine designed for a pistol loaded to 10 rounds. And not 14 or 13 of another type of cartridge. That's what got the Beowulf.

That what my thoughg was as well, use a body without any of the Uzi cuts so it won't work in an Uzi,but will work in this new 9mm.

I believe this first version is indeed intended as a pistol so they can market them initially as such. They did that when they first released their forged lowers, clearly marked it as pistol so no dispute could me made if you were using pistol mags.

What will this do to the Modern Hunter?

Absolutely nothing... These 2 rifles not even similar in quality/class/price. People who want a Modern Hunter and are willing to pay it, will. People who wanted one but weren't going to cough up the money still wont, and they now have a cheaper option.

That definitely sounds like it would be their best way to go about it. I think they definitely know nobody wants to see another "dual use" mag ruling if it can be helped.
