Looking at a Savage Mk II

good info....

how about the Banner 3.5-10X 36mm?

the catalog says its made for 22lr and has AO and BDC.

Actually I suggested the Banner 4-12. The reason I did is that this scope has an adjustable objective lens. Given that we typically shoot a .22 between 15 yards and 150 yards, if you don't have an adjustable objective lens you will have a lot of parallax error which will make good shooting difficult.

Other posters have recommended more expensive scopes. While its true that you get what you pay for, there is also the law of diminishing returns. The original poster was looking for an economical starter gun so I recommended the least expensive scope that I felt was worth having.

The Mueller APV can be had for approximately the same price as the Banner 4-12 AO and it is a nicer scope... I have used both, so have a direct comparison.

So the Mueller ATV costs $120?

I'm not familiar with the Banner 3.5-10X 36mm. I am very familiar with the Banner 4-12, I've used mine on several .22 rifles over the past decade. It does what I need a scope to do for me on a good .22.

As far as rings go, there are no actual standards of what constitutes low, medium or high. Most "medium" rings will probably work but you for this rifle and scope but will have to check the height you need against an specific ring to be sure.

Well i ordered the Bushnell 4-12 with leopold rings.

my indoor range is 25meter's what zero should i use for 1 - 150/200 yards plinking?

mostly at cans, paper targets, rabbits, etc....

i've been told to do 2" under at 25 meters.

I need rings and base for my mk2, any suggestions?

Hopefully 1 piece.

DNZ makes the ONE PIECE Game Reaper mounts for Savage MKII/93 and will ship to Canada. By one piece I mean base and rings built together... these are very nice, solid mounts... If you want a one piece rail, I might have one for you... I am stripping off the one piece mount from my FV-SR and putting on a DIP one piece rail.

I am referring to one piece base and rings separate. Found a base but waiting for a reply from the owner.

For rings, we like Dura Sight Z2 QD rings... Dura Sight won't ship to Canada, but you can also get them from Bass Pro Shops.

So the Mueller ATV costs $120?

YES... the Mueller APV costs $120. I own six of them... all purchased for $120 - $130 over the past two years.

I'm looking at this one piece scope base and rings design by Leapers, for my aluminum receiver Marlin 60 (can't cinch down tight or the aluminum receiver dovetail will crush):

By the way, my CZ452 Style and Varmint have been wearing Bushnell Banner 4-12 X 40AO scopes since new in 2002. These scopes cost about $150 at the time but they have worked very well on my CZs. I got Weaver rings, low mount on the Style that barely allowed the bolt handle to clear the eyepiece, and see-through mounts on the Varmint.

Where do you get your Mueller APV scopes at that price?

I got a MkII BV, laminate stock and heavy blued barrel.

The stock is very good quality, a world better than the plastic one, and I think the heavy barrel "feels" better, as it has a little more weight to it for off-hand shots. I use it for grouse and the odd target session. The accutrigger is phenomenal, and feather light when adjusted down. Bluing on the barrel is crap; you have to keep it clean and oiled (or just reblue like me).

No problems with this setup overall, but had to use "high" weaver rings on my Vortex 2-7X32 rimfire scope to clear the adjustment ring on the scope with the bolt... Next time i'd get a fixed 4 power, or maybe just a semi-auto (I'd miss the accutrigger, however) so I could use Low mounts.
