looking at HS50

Well, to start with it's rather long, and fairly heavy. The recoil is substantial, but not brutal or unpleasant. I bought an ATRS gill brake for mine, but I haven't gotten around to testing it yet. So far I've only shot it at 100 yds , so I can't tell you how far she'll go.With IVI brass, CCI primers, 225 grs of 5010 and a 647gr Winchester Ball bullet it kept every round touching on target. I'm not a big fan of the factory bipod as it's not very stable. The trigger is decent. The travel case is quite good.

From what I hear from this board, get ATRS to make you a nice rifle with parts of YOUR choosing. Customized to your needs. Probably around the same price or a bit more, but I say it's worth it.

I just picked up my HS50. Working on a scope for it before I fire it for the first time, pretty excited about it as you might imagine! ;)

I like the package you get with cleaning kit, tools, case (with wheels on it!!! lol), and its collapsible. I have heard from another HS-50 owner that the ATRS muzzle brake is a recommended upgrade.

Keep in mind the cost of feeding the beast, be prepared to invest in reloading equipment, and start looking for a place to shoot it safely (it needs lots of space!).

I am a little nervous about where to shoot myself, a 50 is a lot of responsibility because if something bad happens you dont want to be the tool who creates bad press for the gun control crowd... My $.02.

Check your range template, mine is only good to .338 Lapua and some of the .416's. 50BMG is specifically mentioned as not being legal there.

Having shot one, here's the deficencies that I noticed with that particular rifle. First, I didn't care for the trigger, but that can be fixed. Second, while the muzzle brake controlled recoil well, I felt it directed an enormous amount of muzzle to the shooter. Again, perhaps a different muzzle brake would correct this. I have been told there are brakes out there that are more"shooter friendly. Lastly, I'm told that no one makes a 20 moa rail for it and the one I shot ran out of elevation at 1000 yds. The scope was a Nightforce 8.5-32. I think you need elevation to at least 2500 to use this cartridge to it's fullest potential. Just my $.02 worth

Get a MOA mount.... I put a Accuracy International scope base and rings on mine... You can get a 18, 28 or 45 MOA mount.

x2 for muzzle brake coming straight back at the shooter. Not bad but kinda annoying (I finally shot her). Plus I was told ATRS can mill your existing scope mount for more MOA adjustment.

Yes we have taken the factory base and added MOA to suit.
Our gill brake is FAR more efficient and does not send the shock wave/concussion, debris and GSR back into the shooters face like the factory brake does.

Is the gill brake you sell an at home install project or a send it to the pro's kinda job? I have heard such good things I think I am gonna need one.

They are really simple to install. Loosen the Steyr brakes lock ring, remove the factory brake by unscrewing it, spin our brake on with the flat UP tighten the factory lock ring, done.
To have a level or 2 makes it nice as 1 level on the pic rail and the other on the top of the brake ensures true TDC for aligning the brake.
If this takes more than 5 minutes , something is wrong:eek:

I am waiting on that one as well.

I really want a magazine fed .50, as I have the money, heavy .30 cal expericence, and drive to want to move to the "Big Beast" .50 BMG, but the only one I know of is the Nemisis, which is almost $13k.

Even if the mag fed Steyr is more expensive then the single shot, I am all in for it once I clear my P90 and G36 Payments on the credit cards.

Any words on when it is coming out or more info on the design changes to make it a mag fed?

Cheers.
