Looking for .357 Magnum Revolver Recommendations

My GP100 was the biggest POS ever, the tolerances were to tight after firing 30 or so rounds the hammer and cylinder jammed up

Had to use a block of wood to slam the cylinder open, never again will I buy a ruger revolver

GEE !!!!
Sorry to hear that.
I carried a GP-100 and it was the best service revolver I ever had, well above S&W's model 10 (4" and 2").
Handled the 357 +P's loads like a charm.
On the other hand, I had a S&W model 19 and a 66, 6" , and both binded at the first 357 shot.
Never trusted them above 38spl.

S&W Model 586 6" brl
S&W Model 19 4" brl
Colt SAA 2nd gen 4 3/4" brl

If the OP is serious about buying a .357 there is a S&W Model 27 -2 with a 5" barrel on the EE right now. One of the best revolvers Smith ever made in .357. The 5" is of particular interest because there were not a lot of the 5" guns made. Balance is about perfect. I love my GP-100 and 686 with 4.2ish barrels but that 5" is in a whole different world as far as quality is concerned.

Just Saying

Take Care

That 27 is gorgeous and it's fit and finish would be an order of magnitude better than anything made today.

TBS there is a S&W 28, the cheaper LEO version of the 27 on the EE for a lot less.

It would still be way better quality wise than modern production revolvers.

- New S&W K-frame (19 or 66) if on a budget.
- Manurhin MR73 if you’re looking for the best and have the coin.

- Rugers are ugly.
- L-frames are nose heavy.
- Pythons are too expensive for what you get.

She's a beaut. Mine has the HiViz sight on it. Have you tried that?

I was gonna get the wood grips from Hogue too but the rubber absorbs the recoil too well to remove.

I'd agree with most of that.....although I'd be more inclined to go with a vintage 19 as opposed to new production.

I like my 6" Model 19 a lot but the 5.25" Manurhin MR-73 I got last year is the best .357 revolver I have ever owned (or am ever likely to own) and I include the python i had in that statement.

If the OP had said .38 with occasional .357 I would agree with an older 19. Having specified .357 as the primary calibre I’d trust the new K frames a bit more due to revision to the forcing cone.

Beautiful MR73. Nill grips are a nice touch.

Sailor, That will just spoil it for everyone now, I must admit, owning a few pythons, and loving them, my go to gun is a early 19-2, But I am past a steady diet of 357, I like wimpy these days I do have a Colt 357m that is a good a shooter, Just saving it.

Good point about .357 in older model 19's. I shoot mostly .38spl in mine. In fact, I rarely shoot .357 in anything.

This thread has been so persuasive that I decided to buy a gp100. Bullseye London had a sale. Gp100 6 inch barrel blues. Couldn't resist for the price.
