Looking for a 22lr for casual precision shooting? options?

My advice would be a CZ 452 or 455 Varmint. I own both and they are beautiful rifles that shoot very well.

Given your stated budget, You can pick yourself up either one, and still have enough coin left over to get a decent scope. I have to say, if you up your budget just a bit, you can afford one of the CZ rifles, and an even better scope. I know that sounds kind of strange, but the difference in scope quality between the $400 price range and the $700-$800 price range is substantial to say the least. If I may suggest, have a look at the Sightron offerings.

Of all the guns mentioned at least CZ are the purdiest. Even I (A Savage guy) will admit to that.

^^^^ what he said, but to add a Rifle Basix trigger is nice , as is the YoDave treatment, saves about $120 bucks. Best thing I did was get rid of the 4x12 scope and mount a Bushnell Tactical 10X in Burris Signature rings. The rings have 20+moa adjustment and can reach out to ~300 yards. My 452 so equipped is a consistent hitter on a 4" gong at 200m, if you on to the wind.

A savage mkii is a very nice gun. It's very accurate and smooth. Considering you have a $1000 budget for a rifle and a scope, id probably go with the CZ 455 with a high end scope.

OP... on your budget, you can't go wrong with a CZ 452/455 Lux or American with a Leupold VX-2 4-12 or 6-18... on the used market, you will be close to your budget and have a fine rifle... a "keeper."

I forgot to include the Varmint in the recommendation... the 452 in Lux, Varmint or American will do nicely... mount a decent scope and it will serve you well.

I had a CZ452 American and Varmint. Both had YoDave trigger kits.
Sold them both to finance a Remington 40XR but have since acquired a CZ455 American and Varmint with a thumbhole Laminated stock.
Again, both have YoDave kits. Both have turned in one inch groups at 100 yards with a variety of Ammo from SV to CCI MiniMags.
These are fine rifles, reasonably priced and with a quality that will allow you to put it in your will . . . and maybe the "willee" too.

Casual precision,that translates to CZ 452 in some form.
I don't think you can go wrong especially with so many with the same idea

I would buy a CZ 452 Varmint also . I shoot Rimfire Factory benchrest with a 452 ,453 and 455
Varmint . They all shoot well and function beautifully . Pick up a nice AO scope to go with it .

What's your budget? Up to a grand or nowhere near that? You want a mag fed rifle or single shot? You think you'll ever hunt with it? Used a consideration? Bolt or semi?
An Anschutz .22 hunting rifle will run over a grand(Prophet River is a dealer). Epp's wants $471.95 for a CZ 455. $599.58 for a CZ 512(semi). $433 for a Savage Mk II.

Hard to beat a 452 CZ, have three and one 455. Prepare for 10001 opinions, wade through the bs, go to a range and actually talk to folks shooting guns instead of keyboards. Jes stirrin' the pot a little on this cold friggin' day. LOL

As a savage owner I would suggest getting something a little higher end. I cannot remember what model it is but it has the heavy barrel, laminate stock with accu-trigger. It feels crude to me. It functions flawlessly and is very accurate but I am always left wanting something more after handling it.
