Hi folks,

I am looking for a 45 for the sole reason that I want one. I am looking between the FN FNX, HK45 and a 1911 (I know, one of these is not like the other). I've done a lot of reading on each, but I'm hoping that someone has own a couple and can shed some light on how they stack up against one another. I'm not looking for competition, just to own. Thanks!

Out of all my handguns, if I could keep just one it would be my HK45. It just feels good in the hand and is a dream to shoot

1911 for the cool kid's club. the AR of pistols.
Plastic got old very quick for me. (3/4000 thousand rounds through my cz p07 duty)
then again, i own pistol's for competition. Plinking for me get's old shooting at a paper target :|

Owning top tier 1911 ( les Baer) and an FNX 45 TAC, both are in the short list of 45 ACP i keep, they are top shooters, many 1911 are great shooter to... JP.

Love my HK45. i recently installed a light LEM in it. I didn't think i could love this gun anymore.... i was wrong!
I find the FNX too big of a grip for only allowing 10 rounds, unless you go tot the US a lot.
i do like a 1911 though...

There's probably a few good reasons that the 1911, designed over 100 years ago and still being manufactured today (by numerous companies), with very little revision, is still very popular. If I was only going to own one .45ACP, it would be a 1911. The other .45's you've mentioned are very good as well - judging from all the guys who own them and speak highly of them - I've just never been a fan of polymer framed guns. Another one I have, that isn't on your list is the CZ97B. Less than a grand, brand new - and very well made and shoots well, too. Wasn't impressed with the plastic guide rod, but that was changed for a SS one, shortly after I got it. They're all nice - pick what "speaks" to you. If you get bitten by the same bug that's got most of us, you may find yourself owning all of them, anyhow.

If you're anywhere near Trenton On, I have an FNX and several 1911s you can try out. This year we are offering a drop in trial service where you pay 50 dollars (tax included) and you get two pistols with two mags each. Plus you can purchase more ammo on site if required. Targets and a RSO also included.

Cheers.

Will

Funny...whilst I loved the fit and finish of my hk45... I truly hated the trigger...put 50 rounds through it and put it up on ee...it didn't come close to my sti...would have been a safe queen...jmho

1911 government / full size -need to have one in your collection if you plan on owning several pistols in .45 ACP cal. 1911 fits very nice in the hand, since we only use hand guns in target practice, 7 or 8 round mag capacity will do. Just my .02 cents.

Haha, I know that will eventually happen! I've made my way through a number of 9mm and currently love the few I've decided to keep - Just hoping to not spend and sell so much like I did with the 9's this time around :p

To be honest, I've never shot a 1911, but the look really appeals to me. I have a WW2 Polish Radom P35 Vis that looks comparable to a 1911, and if the 1911 fits as well as the Radom does, well I might just have to change my underwear. At the same time, I love the modern-looking products as well....

I'm going to take a look at the CZ - any comparison to the HK45, FNX or 1911 that you could give would be much appreciated!

A good .45 should be in everyone's handgun inventory. I have a Glock 21 and an Ed Brown Molon Labe edition 1911. Don't shoot the Glock much but the 1911 is a beautiful piece of iron, to me, if you are going 1911, go quality, you won't regret it. Les Baer, Ed Brown, etc.
Probably why I like my 9mm CZ SP01 shadow line so much is that it feels like a quality 1911.

As you said, one of these things is not like the other. What do you want to do with your 45?

Another vote for the Glock 21, either Gen3 SF or Gen4.
