Looking for a discreet alternative to the traditional rifle case

Personally, I don't want a hassle from police, nor fear from the general public.
I travel for shooting competitions, which means lots of hotel rooms.
I use pelican cases. These days they are used for all sorts of things including musical instruments.
I don't put any stickers or slogans on the case. They seem to not raise any eyebrows.
When asked by the general public, what do I have there. I tell them sports equipment. Which is in fact the truth.
For the police, I would be much more clear about the contents of the case.
My 2 cents.

I agree. No one knows what is inside a standard unmarked pelican case.

carrying a concealed weapon charge usually refers to carrying on your person., not in a case.
you can get a concealed weapon charge for a firearm or weapon being found in a vehicle you were operating that was "hidden" out of plain sight.

If you couldn't be charged if it was in a case, all criminals would transport their firearms this way to avoid such a charge.

That's just retarded, that's what the transport laws call for for ####s sake.

There's concealing it, and there's being discrete. I put my rifles in a Bass Case with the intent of avoiding theft, not for criminal purposes. How it could be interpreted as anything else is pretty much inconceivable to me. I guess it really depends on why you were interacting with the police in the first place. I've had my share of traffic tickets and I can't recall ever being scrutinized beyond my driving.

Exactly! It amazes me the ignorance of people when it comes to law and comon sense.

"nor is concealment stated anywhere as a requirement of the act"

It is required in the act. Several places in fact.

It says your transport case must be "opaque" which means nobody can see through it. That means concealed.

It also says guns left unattended in a vehicle must be kept out of sight. That means concealed.

Shipping laws also require guns to be in discreet packaging. That means concealed.

Also worth noting;

The black rectangular cases that are sold at Canadian Tire as gun cases, are also sold at music stores as guitar cases.

They're the exact same cases.

all examples/scenarios that have no bearing on my original post/example. There are numerous cases where people/criminals have been charged with having a concealed weapon when a gun was found hidden inside a vehicle that was in their care and control that would disagree with your initial statement.

Intent plays a large part in an officers determination of a "concealed weapons charge" following transport regulations is not "concealment". You may feel it is the same thing but in the eyes of the law it is not

An individual cannot be charged with carrying a concealed weapon, if by law, he is allowed to carry a weapon in a concealed fashion...seriously.
