I can't comment on the Mossberg, so I won't. However I do own a Savage 64 and did own a Remington 597, sold it to get the Savage. Of these 2, the Savage wins by far. First trip to the range, it is 100 % more accurate, not nearly as a pain in the ass to strip down to clean, a much simpler trigger group, better quality factory mags. The trigger on the 64 has about 5/16" of light play in it but it is lighter and breaks nicer than the Remington did. The only thing that the Remington had going for it was the nicer stock, but even that took a bunch of sanding to get the barrel to float properly and the last shot hold open, which rarely ever works unless using the factory 10-round mag.
Savage. The better quality gun from the better quality manufacturer. And, they are Canadian made.
