Looking for a rifle for moose hunting

I’d like to see a survey of current cartridges used by Scandinavian moose hunters. They likely used it because it was prolific and cheap, not because it was the best option.

BTW I’m a huge fan of the 6.5x55, even for moose.

Survey say's : 6.5 x 55 Swede - 6.5 x 55 - 6.5 x 55 etc etc all loaded with 160 gr round nose Bullets ! :p LOL RJ

There is a member here who claims to have shot a moose with a single shot 50 cal.
And no it wasn’t a 50 cal black powder either.
He mods on another firearms/hunting forum as well.

Does Nosler make a 50cal Partition? Does anyone even make a 50cal soft point?

Serious questions! ..... The struggle is real. :)

I think the 50 BMG wants a .510" bullet - typically 650 grains and up from there - my Hornady #9 manual says they make (made) a 570 grain DGX in .510" diameter for the 500 Nitro Express - might be close enough for government work???

HSM has a 750 grain HP listed in their catalogue

2800 FPS

Looks like Barnes makes a 647 grain hollow point as well, for the recoil sensitive

I would have guessed that Rick at ATRS would have done it. I know that I've seen the results of him shooting a mulie with a 50.

Your probably right, but it worked according to a late Finnish friend & coworker.
